Premier League on Betfair: Man City edge out local rivals and Spurs turn it around at Villa

That man again: Sergio Aguero got the only goal at the Etihad

Luke Moore rounds up Sunday's action in the Premier League, including a dramatic Manchester derby and Spurs' visit to Villa Park...

A goal from Sergio Aguero in the 63rd minute was enough to separate the two Manchester clubs this afternoon at the Etihad Stadium, as Man City ran out 1-0 winners against their keenest rivals.

While the home side had more possession and the most chances, it was a fairly even encounter until the hapless Chris Smalling saw red in the first half for two yellow cards - the first an absolutely senseless blocking of a Joe Hart free kick and the second a needless late lunge which saw him go for an early bath. The sending off was matched at 4.03/1 on the Exchange, and after Smalling received his marching orders Manuel Pellegrini's men sensed blood and went for the kill.

When the goal finally came in the second half, it was after some good City work down the right, and Aguero was able to pull away from his marker and rifle the ball beyond David De Gea. Matched at 6.05/1 in the First Goalscorer market, the Argentine is now 2.3811/8 favourite to win the Premier League top scorer award, with an injury-prone Diego Costa seen by the market as his only real rival to the crown.

City are still second-favourites to successfully defend their domestic crown, at 5.14/1. Manchester United sit at a massive 55.054/1 and should now be focusing on breaking back into that top four, something they're rated as a 1.845/6 shot to achieve.

In the afternoon's other game, at Villa Park, Tottenham Hotspur came back from a goal down to beat Aston Villa and move up to eighth in a dramatic game. Villa went ahead through an Andreas Weimann opener, but midway through the second half Christian Benteke was sent off for violent conduct after a scuffle involving several Spurs players and Mauricio Pochettino's men started to turn the screw.

Nacer Chadli popped up at the back post to snatch an equaliser and shortly after that Harry Kane scored the winner with a fortunately deflected free kick which sailed past Brad Guzan in the Villa goal and sent the north Londoners into dreamland. Spurs were matched at 30.029/1 to win the game in the play, with the 1-2 scoreline trading as high as 80.079/1. Paul Lambert's side are now just 4.03/1 for relegation after their sixth defeat on the bounce.
