Is Harry Kane the future for Spurs?

Harry Kane is impressing for Spurs so far this season

The name on the lips of all Spurs fans is Harry Kane but is he really as good as advertised?

The clamour for Harry Kane to be given a starting role at Spurs is set to grow following his super-sub cameo at Villa Park.

The England U-21 international was full of energy and desire as he helped Spurs turn the game around against Villa's ten men.

As the pressure increases on Mauricio Pochettino to give the 21-year-old his first Premier League start of the season, we ask is Kane the future for Tottenham?

Infectious attitude

From the moment he got on the pitch against Villa, Kane transformed a lacklustre Spurs effort.

He brought energy, urgency and a genuine willingness to work hard to drag his team back into the game.

Within seconds he had wriggled his way to the byline and won a corner. He met the dead ball with a header that produced a routine stop for the well placed Brad Guzan.

Through his appearance in the Capital One Cup and Europa League this season, Kane has grown accustomed to finding the net in a Tottenham shirt.

He was single-mindedly unwilling to step aside and let 30million signing Erik Lamela take charge of the late free kick that brought his winning goal.

Hugely fortuitous though it was, you couldn't help but feel Kane's attitude alone deserved the break.

Replacing the Chuckle Brothers

While Pochettino is clearly reluctant to put the young striker in from the start, the Argentine may find his hand forced by the continuing ineptitude of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado.

The former has been completely unable to recapture the form of his debut season at White Hart Lane.

His 17 Premier League goals convinced the club to take him from Manchester City on a permanent basis but that proved to be a false dawn.

While Adebayor's troubles are clear, the Togolese is positively prolific alongside misfiring Spaniard Soldado.

A potent goalscorer at Valencia, the 29-year-old is fast becoming a pantomime figure in the Premier League after scoring just six times in 29 appearances - most of them coming from the penalty spot.

Both are proven goal scorers at international level and undoubtedly possess vastly more experience than Kane.

The fact remains, with only two league goals between them this season, Spurs desperately need to try something different.

Kane and Able

Based on his Villa Park appearance, Kane is palpably ready to tackle the challenge head on.

He has scored nine goals in 13 appearances for Tottenham this season - admittedly against opposition that cannot be deemed top class.

However, goalscoring is a habit and Kane's confidence must be sky high following his performance on Sunday.

Spurs' next two Premier League opponents are Stoke at White Hart Lane and a trip to Hull City.

With the greatest of respect to both clubs, neither is likely to faze a striker eager to impress and hungry for goals.

Pochettino has apparently questioned Kane's performances in training, however, it was his application on the field of play just when Spurs needed it most on Sunday that spoke volumes.

On all known evidence, Kane is far from the finished product and there are some rough edges to be scrubbed from his game.

He does however possess the freedom of youth - something that is lacking in Tottenham's striking alternatives.

From Roman Pavlyuchenko to Darren Bent, Spurs have been missing a potent goalscorer since Jermain Defoe was in his pomp.

Pochettino must take a chance on Kane and give him the opportunity to prove his worth at White Hart Lane on the biggest stage of all.

This Premier League season is crying out for a young English player to grab some of the limelight.

Why not Harry Kane?
