Transfer Rumours: Benzema for Liverpool and Rooney for Monaco?

Could Karim Benzema be the answer to Liverpool's problems?

It is all go today in the transfer rumour section of the media with Wayne Rooney being linked with a big money move away from the Premier League and Karim Benzema coming into top division.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has hinted at a shock move for Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney.

The Daily Telegraph has reported that the Principality club chief is looking to try and appease fans, who are frustrated at the departures of James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao this summer. It was first reported that the Ligue 1 side were eyeing a move for Rooney last summer but failed to take full advantage of the opportunity. However, it is understood that Monaco will look to return to the Premier League outfit as they aim to strengthen. The England international recently signed a new deal with the Red Devils and any bid for him will force the French club to dig deep into their pockets.

The Express, meanwhile, has reported that Premier League champions Manchester City have made an official enquiry for Borussia Dortmund's highly-rated Marco Reus. The attacking midfielder has recently turned down the German club's advances to try and tie him down to an extended deal, opening up the possibility of a move away. Reus is currently contracted to the club until 2017 but in the summer of 2015 a 20million buy-out will kick in. Dortmund are expecting interest from across Europe when that clause takes effect. City boss Manuel Pellegrini has made no secret of his admiration for the Germany international and will be hoping to beat stiff competition to his signature.

German publication Bild understands that Atletico Madrid will return for Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri in January as they look to take advantage of his lack of chances in the Bundesliga. The report suggests that a figure of €15million could be enough to tempt the German champions into a sale as boss Pep Guardiola has enough options in his squad already. The Swiss international joined the Bavarian side from Basel in 2012 but has made only 48 appearances during that time.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema could be on his way to Anfield in January, according to the Daily Star. Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti is growing frustrated with the Frenchman and his failure to convert chances into goals and could let him leave if the money is right. Liverpool have struggled to replace Luis Suarez this summer, with new signings Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli both yet to net in the league. The report reveals that the two clubs have already entered into early talks although the fee could prove to be a stumbling block with Real hoping to secure €50million.
