The Big Wednesday Multiple: Betis to box on in Copa del Rey

Real Betis have started dragging themselves off the canvas

It's that time of the week where Paul Robinson selects a home win, an away win, a match to go over 2.5 goals and a match to go under 2.5 goals. Here are his selections:

Bet 1: Betis (HOME) @ 1.65 (13/20)

Real Betis are in transition at the moment following their relegation from La Liga last season. After eight matches in the second tier, they have picked up four wins, two draws and two defeats which puts them in seventh place.

Their attentions turn to the Copa del Rey this evening and while that competition won't be high on their list of priorities, Julio Velzquez's side comfortably won their last round fixture at home to Llagostera.

Opponents, Lugo, finished in mid-table in the Segunda Division last year and they will likely end up there once again this time. A home win over Alcorcon in the last round of the Copa del Rey was a decent result but they face a much sterner test today, in a competition that they have been historically poor in.

Bet 2: Sao Paulo (AWAY) @ 2.5 (6/4)

Sao Paulo have one foot in the quarter finals of the Copa Sudamericana following their 1-0 win over Huachipato in Brazil a fortnight ago but they still need to complete the job in Chile.

Notoriously difficult to predict, Muricy Ramalho's men are at least showing a bit more consistency this term. They are up in third in the Campeonato and while they are probably a bit too far behind Cruzeiro to think about lifting that title, they are certainly capable of winning this one.

'Tricolor' can beat anybody on their day - home or away - and that is highlighted by victories over Cruzeiro, Santos, Gremio and Internacional in the last three months, with the latter two coming on the road.

Huachipato will no doubt feel that they are still in this tie and with the score only at 1-0, they probably are. I just don't feel they have the class to cope with the Brazilians though, and Mario Salas' side have lost two of their last three in front of their own fans.

Bet 3: Godoy Cruz v Tigre (Over 2.5 goals) @ 2.6 (8/5)

Godoy Cruz began their campaign in relatively decent fashion by taking seven points from a possible 12 with their sole defeat coming at the hands of reigning champions, River Plate. They haven't won since though - a spell of half a dozen games - with the problems lying mainly in defence.

Carlos Mayor's team have conceded 19 so far this season, a total only bettered by newly promoted, Defensa y Justica, and they have played a game more. With 13 scored at the other end, their matches are averaging 3.2 goals each time - the second highest in the entire division. Seven of their 10 have finished with over 2.5 goals and their last two results were 2-2 and 3-3 draws.

Tigre come into this fixture in red-hot form as the Victoria based outfit have won their last four outings in the league. Although three of those came on home soil, Fabin Alegre's players will be full of confidence.

As far as the goals go, two of those four victories saw the net bulge at least three times and while their overall match average is 2.2 goals per 90 minutes, nearly half of them have ended up going over 2.5.

Bet 4: Atletico MG v Corinthians (Under 2.5 goals) @ 1.53 (8/15)

Atletico MG have a bit of a mountain to climb if they are to make the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil after they lost the first leg 2-0 at Corinthians. It wasn't too long ago though that they trailed by the same scoreline in the Copa Libertadores final and the men from Mineiro came good to win on penalties.

Levir Culpi's side haven't lost at home since a 1-0 reverse to Goias back in May and they've kept six clean sheets in their last seven outings at Independncia. All of those finished with two goals or fewer being scored and that includes a trio of 1-0's and a 0-0 stalemate.

Corinthians are the masters of low-scoring affairs, despite a brief flurry of overs earlier on in the year under new boss, Mano Menezes. There's no doubt in my mind that they will set up to contain their opponents and protect their 2-0 lead, and I'd be highly surprised if the match ended with three goals or more.
