Unlikely stars to watch out for this Premier League season

The time is now for Chelsea and Thibaut Courtois

We can all predict Alexis Sanchez is going to be one to watch but who are the other more subtle movers who may light up the Premier League this season?

With the World Cup over and pre-season almost done, clubs are still finalising their squads and fine-tuning their formations.

Players have left clubs and players have been signed to new clubs, but here are some of the more unlikely players we feel will make an impact during the campaign.

Luke Shaw - Manchester United

A year ago, Shaw signed a new five-year deal with Southampton following a fairly successful 2012-13 campaign which saw his club secure their Premier League status comfortably. Along with Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Jack Cork and Nathaniel Clyne, Shaw became a mainstay of this up-and-coming side.

The defender made his England debut in February versus Denmark and was then selected for the World Cup squad, becoming the youngest player to feature in the 2014 World Cup.

Manchester United had kept tabs on the youngster and at the end of June, Shaw became the world's most expensive teenager when he made a 30million move to Old Trafford. Expectation is high for Shaw, but he's taken most things in his stride already.

Thibaut Courtois - Chelsea

Now is the time for the Belgian goalkeeper to make the number one spot his own at Stamford Bridge.

Courtois started between the sticks in Chelsea's last friendly before the start of the season in place of normal custodian Petr Cech. He has played on loan at Atletico Madrid for the past few seasons and has been outstanding. He'll need to be to replace the man who has been Chelsea's number one for the past ten years.

Courtois has won the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, La Liga and Copa del Rey in a glittering three seasons with Los Rojiblancos. Blues boss Jose Mourinho knows that Courtois will be more than an able deputy although the 22-year-old won't be satisfied with just that now. He has a lot to prove.

Jack Colback - Newcastle United

With the national press dubbing Colback "the most underrated player in the Premier League", it would be remiss not to include the midfielder as an unlikely star of the forthcoming season.

Colback has just proven that he has something of the rebel in him by moving from Sunderland to their most bitter rivals Newcastle United, a club Colback has supported since he was a boy. He was instrumental in Sunderland's spectacular and unlikely survival last season and this could be the season when his career moves up a gear to possible international reckoning.

Mauro Zarate - West Ham United

The Argentine striker has already had a spell in the Premier League with Birmingham City, when the then 21-year-old scored four goals in a loan spell from Qatari club, Al-Sadd.

Now matured, Zarate is expected to score the goals at the Boleyn Ground as West Ham aim to adopt a more attacking philosophy.

Zarate has been playing with Argentinian club Velez Sarsfield, where he won the 2013 Supercopa Argentina and finished as top scorer in the Primera Division Torneo with 13 goals in 19 matches.

Tom Ince - Hull City

After what appeared to be a public auction for Ince during the summer, where he seemed to be at every clubs' training ground, Ince has finally settled at the KC Stadium despite almost signing for Italian giants, Internazionale. The attacking winger will be hoping to rediscover the form that he had when playing for Blackpool a couple of seasons ago. He has since disappointed, so this season could be a defining moment for the talented 22-year-old.
