Premier League: Steven Gerrard to sign with LA Galaxy

Steven Gerrard will end his career with over 700 Liverpool appearances to his name

LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena has confirmed that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will join his club in July...

After 27 years at Anfield in a career that has taken in ten trophies both domestically and in Europe, Steven Gerrard will leave Liverpool for LA Galaxy in July.

The news, confirmed by Galaxy coach Bruce Arena, will come as no surprise to the football-watching public in the UK - it's been widely reported for almost a week now - but to have it officially confirmed by his new club's manager means Liverpool fans now know it's definitely happening and they can start to get to used to the idea of saying goodbye to a truly iconic player.

Gerrard has been undoubtedly one of the Premier League's best operators over the last 15 years, and he is unquestionably the best player to never win a league title. His goals and inspirational performances will feature in highlights reels for many, many years to come.

And he heads to the west coast of the US still in good enough nick to make a huge difference and potentially follow in the footsteps of David Beckham, who won two Supporters Shields and lifted two MLS Cups in his time at Los Galacticos.

There is still time to win one final trophy in England though. The league title may well be beyond Liverpool this season, but the FA Cup, scene of some of Gerrard's finest moments, including this legendary match-saving howitzer against West Ham in 2006:

What's more, the final is scheduled to take place on 30th May. Which just so happens to be Stevie G's 35th birthday. What a present and fitting send off it would be.
