Kane, Ings and Hughes 'ones to watch' in 2015

Danny Ings is a terrific young talent

Every year new faces emerge to light up the game in England, so who are some of the rising stars to watch as 2015 progresses? Alex Johnson investigates.

Tottenham's Harry Kane is probably the most obvious pick among the Premier League hopefuls, having emerged as a major force at White Hart Lane in the last few months.

The England Under-21 striker served his apprenticeship with loan spells at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City, all of which showed that there was potential, but gave little hint of just what an impact he could make.

However, he made the most of opportunities to start in the Europa League earlier this season, almost forcing Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino to give him a go in the league.

And Kane has not disappointed, scoring five times in his last five league appearances, with the true nature of his potential displayed to the full in a 5-2 win over Chelsea, where he dominated and almost bullied the Blues defensive pairing of John Terry and Gary Cahill.

The future looks bright for Kane and England head coach Roy Hodgson says he is watching, so a step up onto the full international stage is almost certainly not too far away, with the Spurs man having already scored eight goals in ten outings for the Under-21s.

Another young forward who is pushing his name forward for England selection is the all-action Burnley striker Danny Ings.

The 22-year-old formed a lethal partnership with Sam Vokes in the Championship last season, only for both players to be hampered by injury when the Clarets returned to the top-flight.

However, Ings is now back to full fitness and is starting to terrorise Premier League defences, with his bustling, non-stop style a culture shock to some top defenders, while his efforts have helped the Clarets fight back to grab impressive draws at Manchester City and Newcastle United recently.

Narrow losses at Spurs and Liverpool also highlighted the value of Ings to his side, with the relegation battlers unlucky not to take anything from those two games.

Like Kane, Ings has already broken into the England Under-21s set-up and has scored four times in seven games for the junior side, meaning that he is already firmly on the radar of Hodgson and the senior England coaches.

The final youngster to watch out for currently plies his trade in the Championship, but that is unlikely to still be the case come August.

Derby County midfielder Will Hughes is certain to be a Premier League player, even if the Rams fail to gain promotion - having been denied in the play-off final last term after outplaying QPR for almost the entire 90 minutes.

Hughes has been on the wanted list of a number of top clubs for some time, but he is still only 19 and surely has a bright future ahead of him.

At 6ft 1in he has the physique to make his mark in the hurly-burly of the midfield engine room, but he is much more than that, having an eye for a pass, good touch and the ability to dictate play when he has the ball at his feet.

He is not exactly a prolific goalscorer as yet, but he has plenty of time on his side and as he is already a regular with the England Under-21s group, he is obviously thought of highly by coaches away from Pride Park.

Rams head coach Steve McClaren is of course a former England boss himself and he is just the right man to ensure that Hughes fulfils his potential in the years to come.
