The Big Wednesday Multiple - Blades to progress in the FLT

Nigel Clough's side have been doing well of late

It's that time of the week where Paul Robinson selects a home win, an away win, a match to go over 2.5 goals and a match to go under 2.5 goals. Here are his selections...

Bet 1: River Plate (HOME) @ 1.65 (13/20)

Defending champions, River Plate, are top of the tree once again in Argentina as after 14 fixtures, they sit two points clear of Lanus in first place.

Los Millonarios are still undefeated this term and they now haven't lost a game inside of normal time since April - a run of 30 matches. Marcelo Gallardo's side have won their last three in a row at home and that includes a victory over tonight's opponents in the Copa Sudamericana.

Estudiantes recovered from their Sudamericana exit - in which they lost both legs to River - by beating Rosario Central on Sunday. That was in front of their own fans though and their away results this term read - played six, won one, drawn one, lost four.

Bet 2: Sheffield United (AWAY) @ 2.62 (13/8) - Live on Sky Sports 2 at 19:45 GMT

Sheffield United should really be higher up than eighth in League One given their size but recent signs have suggested that they could finally end up with promotion at the end of the year.

Nigel Clough will still be taking this competition seriously though as while the Football League Trophy is seen as a distraction by many, a win in any competition breeds confidence.

The Blades have won four and drawn one of their last five on the road and they kept clean sheets in three of them. That bodes well here and I can see them being too strong for a Walsall team who are down in 16th in the league and they also failed to beat Shrewsbury on this ground in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Bet 3: Sao Paulo v Internacional (Over 2.5 goals) @ 1.95 (19/20)

There are only five fixtures left to go in Brazil's top flight and if Sao Paulo have any chance of catching leaders, Cruzeiro, they have to win tonight. They are five points adrift of the reigning champions but closing that to two will heap pressure on them

It won't be an easy ride here though as they face Internacional - a team who could also do with a win to boost their Copa Libertadores aspirations.

Those two facts should lead to goals and it is worth noting that Sao Paulo's last three in front of their own fans have rewarded over 2.5 backers, as have four of Internacional's last five away.

Bet 4: Coventry v Plymouth (Under 2.5 goals) @ 1.95 (19/20)

After suffering a humiliating exit in the FA Cup on Sunday at the expense of non-league, Worcester City, Coventry will be desperate to put that behind them this evening and make it through to the semi's of the Football League Trophy.

Manager, Steven Pressley, is under increasing pressure and I expect his response to be to tighten up at the back. Expect a cautious approach from The Sky Blues early on as they will be keen to keep a clean sheet at all costs.

Plymouth are doing well in League Two at the moment as they are currently in seventh place and on an eight game unbeaten run. The key to their success has been in defence as they kept six clean sheets during that period - two of which came on their travels. Four of their last five away have gone under 2.5 goals and that trend should continue this evening.
