Rumours: Could Steven Gerrard leave Liverpool this summer?

Could Stevie G really leave Liverpool for another club?

Steven Gerrard has stayed loyal to Liverpool throughout his career but could the former England captain really be ready for another challenge?

Clubs around the world will have been put on high alert after Steven Gerrard revealed he could leave Liverpool in the summer.

The former England captain will see his contract at Anfield expire in May and so far the 34-year-old has not been offered a new deal by his hometown club.

Gerrard is adamant he has no plans to hang up his boots and the midfielder could move on to pastures new, with plenty of interest expected to come from Europe and franchises in the MLS. For now he wants to focus on his Liverpool duties but has admitted he does have one eye on his future.

He was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "As it stands at the moment, I'm here until the end of the season and want to make the most of it. I certainly won't be retiring this summer.

"I will play beyond this season. We will have to wait and see if that's at Liverpool or somewhere else. That's Liverpool's decision. If they don't come then I will see what's out there."

Moving on to news north of the border and Celtic could be set to land former Real Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra. Reports suggest the one-time France international, who is currently a free agent, has travelled to Glasgow to begin talks with the Old Firm outfit over a possible deal. The Hoops are hoping to land the 29-year-old before any potential interest south of the border increases.

Speculation is growing in the Championship that Brighton are hoping to secure the services of Wigan Athletic keeper Ali Al Habsi on a loan deal.

Stuck down in 21st place in the table with just two points between themselves and the relegation zone, the Seagulls are hoping to land Al Habsi in the coming days to help solve their ongoing problems at the back.

News from abroad and Inter Milan are desperately trying to tie striker Mauro Icardi down to a new deal, according to Tuttosport. The Italian sports newspaper believes interest is growing in the Argentine following some impressive performances in Serie A this term. It also looks like Inter are lining up a potential replacement for Icardi already - should he leave - with Tuttosport suggesting they could try and sign Fabio Borini from Liverpool in January.

Borini continues to find himself behind the likes of Mario Balotelli, Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert in the pecking order under manager Brendan Rodgers, so he might be open to a move to the Italian giants next year.
