Premier League on Betfair: Pardew's Newcastle pile the woe on Liverpool

Alan Pardew's team have now won three games on the spin

It was an action-packed afternoon in the Premier League, with 14 teams in action. Luke Moore rounds up the drama...

Ayoze Perez handed Alan Pardew's Newcastle a third win in a row as the Magpies ran out 1-0 winners over a listless Liverpool at St James's Park. Pardew's men were the better side for the lion's share of the game and deserved winners, with Liverpool still struggling to find a rhythm or a tempo to their play that so characterised them last season.

The home win was matched at a big 6.411/2, with Perez matched at 14.5n/a in the First Goalscorer market. Next up for the Reds is a trip to the Bernabeu to face Real Madrid in the Champions League, a game they're currently trading at a huge 13.5n/a to win. Brendan Rodgers declared himself 'pleased with Liverpool's progress' earlier today but the harsh reality is his side are now six points worse off than they were this time last season and now a huge 9.28/1 to replicate last season's top two finish.

Arsenal eventually beat Burnley 3-0 at the Emirates, in a game that on paper looked fairly straight forward. In reality it was anything but; the score sat at 0-0 at the break and was finely poised. The Gunners' quality shone through however, and thanks to two goals from Alexis Sanchez and a rare strike from Calum Chambers, the north Londoners find themselves back in the top four. You'll get a big 21.020/1 on them to win the league this season, but Arsene Wenger's men are in great form - they've only lost one league game all season.

Chelsea also slightly laboured to a win over bottom-dwellers Queens Park Rangers at Stamford Bridge. Despite going ahead through an Oscar goal (matched at 9.89/1 in the First Goalscorer market), they were pegged back by a cheeky backheeled effort from Charlie Austin. It took a debatable penalty, won and converted by Eden Hazard, to land them a 2-1 win. The scoreline was matched at 15.014/1 on the Exchange and Chelsea are still hot favourites for the league title this season - 1.364/11 is the price.

Southampton marched on to their tenth win in 11 games, this time winning at Hull by a solitary goal from Victor Wanyama. Southampton are priced at 2.01/1 for a top six finish this season, which has to rate as a decent bet given their confidence and the inconsistent nature of the teams around them.

In the afternoon's other games, Everton and Swansea duked out a 0-0 draw, West Brom won at Leicester thanks to an unfortunate Esteban Cambiasso own goal and Stoke and West Ham drew 2-2 in a rip-roaring game that extended the Hammers' unbeaten run to four matches.
