Rodgers and Mourinho know each other well

Liverpool were something of a bogey team for Jose Mourinho during his first spell as Blues boss. He got his revenge in April, however, as Chelsea's win at Anfield marked the moment when the Reds' title bid fell apart. Ahead of Saturday's match, here are five of the the top Liverpool v Chelsea moments...

1. Carling Cup Final - February 2005

Everybody remembers the Champions League ties (see below) but the modern Liverpool v Chelsea rivalry actually began in a thrilling, tempestuous Carling Cup final in Cardiff. Mourinho was in his first season as Blues boss and a certain Brendan Rodgers was youth team coach at Stamford Bridge. The Reds lead through John Arne Rise's first minute strike until the 79th minute when Steven Gerrard headed in to his own net. Mourinho was sent to the stands for gesturing to the Liverpool fans, and the score was 1-1 after 90 minutes. Chelsea dominated extra-time, scoring two more and eventually winning 3-2. Chelsea are 2.3411/8 to win Saturday's match.    

2. Luis Garcia's Ghost Goal - April 2005

The Blues were favourites, having already done the double over the Reds in the league, as well as winning that Carling Cup final, but Rafael Benitez was a master-tactician over two leg ties and, following a 0-0 at the Bridge, his team returned to Anfield with a chance. In the fourth minute of the second leg, Garcia prodded the ball towards an empty net as William Gallas battled to clear off the line. The referee gave the goal and Liverpool defended stoutly for the remainder, going through to the final which they won against AC Milan. Mourinho dubbed Garcia's strike the "ghost goal". The Reds are 3.55/2 for victory on Saturday.

3. Liverpool end Chelsea's unbeaten record - October 2008

We could have chosen the Champions League 4-4 from the same season but this far less exciting match saw the end one of the great records in English football. Under Mourinho, and even under Avram Grant, Stamford Bridge was English football's premier fortress. Chelsea went 86 matches unbeaten at home, between 2004 and 2008, before Liverpool eked out this 1-0 win against Luiz Felipe Scholari's side. As a match it wasn't much to write home about but Jose Bosingwa's 8th minute own goal signaled the end of a great era for the Blues and their record remains unmatched. Betfair have opened a market on Chelsea going unbeaten in the league through this entire season.

4. Suarez bites Ivanovich - April 201

Luis Suarez was already accustomed to controversy, having previously bitten an opponent while playing for PSV Eindhoven and been banned for eight matches for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra. However, he surpassed himself in this 2-2 draw at Anfield when he bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic and was banned for 10 matches. The incident sparked controversy and even Prime Minister David Cameron criticised Suarez. The Uruguayan would bite again but it's hard to imagine that Liverpool fans wouldn't want him leading their line on Saturday. The current Liverpool attack certainly looks toothless.

5. Chelsea ruin Liverpool's title bid at Anfield

Liverpool have so far failed to recapture last season's form and Reds legend John Toshack said this week that his former-club are traumatised by the way they threw away the title in April. Whether that's true or not, this surprise 2-0 victory for Chelsea at Anfield was the moment when it all started to go wrong. Steven Gerrard, who gifted Chelsea their first goal, has never looked the same player since and the Reds now find themselves seventh in the table and 3.39/4 for a top four finish. Chelsea, meanwhile, are 1.392/5 to win the title.
