O'Higgins v Union La Calera
Friday January 2, 23:00 GMT
The top flight Clausura gets underway in Chile tonight and O'Higgins will be looking to improve upon their eighth place finish in the Apertura. A top five spot should be the target as that would give them a shot at Copa Libertadores football and they will be keen to get off to a winning start in front of their own fans.
During that first semester of the campaign, Facundo Sava's side scored 27 and conceded 25, giving their matches an average of 3.06 goals each time. That doesn't exactly make good reading for our selection, but it is worth noting that while only five of their 17 rewarded over 2.5 goal layers, two of those came in their last four home games. We should also consider that the last two meetings on this ground between this pair finished 0-0 and 0-1.
Union La Calera will also have their sights on a top five position after they finished just one place and one point behind today's opponents. They were in with a chance of achieving that during the first term, but three straight defeats at the end of it saw them miss out by four points.
Ariel Pereyra's men were also among the goals during the Apertura, but not to the extent of O'Higgins. Their fixtures averaged 2.76 goals each time, with almost half ending with two or less. In fact, three of their last four outings finished 1-0 - one for and two against.
This has all the makings of a tight encounter, so with over 2.5 goals trading at around the 1.9620/21 mark, I have to make it my lay of the day.
