Next QPR Manager Betting: Chris Ramsey back to favourite after Laudrup rules himself out

QPR are still on the hunt for a new manager

After Michael Laudrup today publicly ruled himself out of the running, we have a new favourite at the top of the betting in the Next QPR Manager market. Luke Moore takes a look...

After Tony Fernandes' cryptic tweet about who he may or may not hire as the next manager of Queens Park Rangers, the Next QPR Manager market on Betfair's Exchange is finding it hard to know which way to turn, especially since ex-Swansea manager Michael Laudrup appeared, through his agent, to rule himself out of the running.

Laudrup is currently manager of Qatari side Lekhwiya  and has stated he isn't interested in leaving his post until the summer at the earliest, leading the market to re-install incumbent caretaker boss Chris Ramsey as favourite at the head of the betting. Ramsey is available presently to back at 5.59/2 to take the job permanently (under Betfair market rules this means for ten games).

Elsewhere in the running, Nigel Adkins, the former Southampton and Scunthorpe United manager who was most recently sacked as manager of Reading in December, rates as a third-favourite 8.07/1 poke and Mark Warburton - currently manager of Brentford but subject of much speculation over his future - is 9.08/1 to back.

Second favourite is Real Madrid coach Paul Clement, available at 7.87/1 at the moment and thought to be open to the idea of moving into management proper at some point. He may be tempted by a London-based Premier League job, but has so far remained tight-lipped on the subject.

Talks with previous favourite for the role Tim Sherwood (backed as low as 1.21/5 after Harry Redknapp's departure) are thought to have broken down over the ex-Spurs man's concerns over mounting debts at the club and the repercussions of relegation as well as an impending Football League fine. He is no longer thought to be in the running for the job.

It certainly looks like a 'pick 'em' market at the moment, and until we get further information from the decision makers at the club, it's anyone's guess who'll take the reins tasked with the challenge of keeping Rangers in the top flight.
