Moyes, Pulis & Koeman all linked with Toon job and other Monday rumours.

Things are not looking good for Alan Pardew at Newcastle

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is hanging on by a thread and potential replacements are being lined up. That rumour I can believe. Some of the others in the papers less so. Alex Johnson looks at them all.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants to sign a central defender in January and will renew his interest in Mats Hummels.

The Dutchman managed to add to his defensive options in the summer with the signings of Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind but failed to bring in a recognised centre-half.

United were strongly linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund's Hummels in the summer, along with Barcelona, but the German outfit were able to keep the 25-year-old.

With Barca now unable to conduct any transfer business, the Daily Express are reporting that United will try again for Hummels once the transfer window opens in the New Year.

The same newspaper are also claiming that new United star Angel Di Maria will be asked to persuade former Real Madrid team mate Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford next summer.

The 29-year-old has been the subject of speculation since admitting he was unhappy with the Spanish side's transfer business.

Di Maria and Ronaldo are said to be close friends and the Argentine's words could be what tips the transfer tussle in United's favour, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain also interested.

Away from Old Trafford, and the Daily Star are claiming that Roma will offer Liverpool 2million for full-back Glen Johnson in January.

Johnson's contract at Anfield is set to expire next summer and the Reds are said to be unwilling to offer him fresh terms.

Roma will hope that former England and Chelsea colleague Ashley Cole, who made the move to Italy this summer, can persuade Johnson the Giallorossi is the right club for him.

The Daily Mirror is claiming on Monday that Chelsea and Arsenal are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Valencia striker Paco Alcacer.

The 21-year-old, who got on the scoresheet at the weekend for Los Che, is said to have a release clause of 15million in his deal and the paper claims both clubs are eager to activate it.

Finally, the Daily Star is reporting that Newcastle have drawn up a three-man shortlist of replacements for Alan Pardew as manager.

The Toon hierarchy are considering the future of Pardew after dropping to the foot of the Premier League following Saturday's 4-0 defeat to Southampton.

Newcastle's list of potential replacements is said to feature David Moyes, Tony Pulis and Ronald Koeman, who oversaw the Saints win over the Magpies.

The Sun claims Newcastle will look to appoint a new boss if Newcastle lose their next game to Hull City.
