Next Manager Markets: Chris Hughton favourite for Fulham role and Pulis leads the Cardiff running

Tony Pulis is currently favourite for the Cardiff manager's position

Luke Moore takes a look at the next manager markets at both Fulham and Cardiff...

With both Fulham and Cardiff parting ways with their managers on the same day, attention has quickly turned to who the Championship clubs will appoint next in their bid to make it back to England's top flight.

Whoever takes over at the west Londoners is going to have some job on their hands; Felix Magath's reign was nothing short of disastrous at Craven Cottage, and he leaves them rock-bottom of the second tier with just one point from seven games.

Chris Hughton currently heads the betting at 4.3100/30, and the ex-Newcastle and Spurs man has been without a management job since he left Norwich back in April. His appointment would presumably be welcomed by Fulham fans - Hughton has been successful in the Championship before with Newcastle and knows what it takes to win the league.

Another manager in the running is, maybe surprisingly, Alan Pardew. The current manager of Newcastle is widely thought to be looking for a move since his tenure in the north east became toxic and the Londoner is a fan of the west London club. With his price currently sat at 12.5n/a, he could prove a shrewd bet. Kit Symons currently has the job on a caretaker basis and is 6.25/1, and ex-Spurs man Tim Sherwood is 5.49/2 second-favourite.

Across into Wales now, and since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left his position at Cardiff the market has settled on Tony Pulis as favourite to take over at 5.69/2. Pulis left Crystal Palace somewhat surprisingly just ahead of the new season in a purported row over transfer targets/budget and would presumably relish a way back into management as early as possible. Whether he would be prepared to take a step down a division remains to be seen, however.

The other standout candidate in the Cardiff manager market is ex-Celtic man Neil Lennon. He's thrown his hat into the ring for a number of jobs since leaving Scotland and maybe another fiercely-supported club like Cardiff would suit him well. His price of 7.413/2 looks tempting.

The possible fly in the ointment for Bluebirds fans though is of course whether either of these men would be happy working under the fickle Vincent Tan.
