Football Bet of the Day: You'd be Kray not to back the visitors

Sportfruende Siegen's form has gone to the dogs

After a baffling setback last night, Kevin Hatchard's hoping for better fortunes in the German lower leagues this evening.

Sportfreunde Siegen v FC Kray
Wednesday September 17, 18:30

A real head-scratcher last night, as Bayer Leverkusen drew a blank at Monaco in the Champions League, losing 1-0. A team that had banged in 22 goals in six games couldn't find the net against a team that's made a dreadful start to the campaign, and Bayer didn't even have the decency to ship enough goals to make our Over 2.5 Goals bet a winner. Humph.

That's quite enough glamour for one week, so we're retreating to the German Regionalliga West, and a clash between Sportfreunde Siegen and FC Kray. Regular readers (stop hiding, I know you're there somewhere) will recognise the home team, as they once netted us a winner by getting thumped 5-0 at the leaders Viktoria Koln.

It's been a tough start to the season for Sportfreunde Siegen - they have lost all six of their league games so far, conceding 16 goals in the process. Although the 5-0 gubbing against Viktoria was their only heavy defeat so far, they always seem to find a way to lose close games. It doesn't help that they are awful starters to matches - in their six games they have conceded the opening goal five times, and on four of those occasions they have been trailing at half-time.

FC Kray were promoted from the Oberliga at the end of last season, and they are loving life in this division. The Essen-based side are seventh, and have put together a five-match unbeaten run. That sequence includes victories over Wattenscheid and Hennef, who are the division's other two winless sides apart from Sportfreunde Siegen. 20-year-old striker Philipp Godde has made a cracking start to the campaign, and has scored four goals in his last three games.

Sportfreunde Siegen have no points, and are facing a side that can move up to fourth with a win. The away win seems overpriced to me at 2.68/5, so let's back the visitors.

Recommended Bet
