Liverpool should get the job done on Saturday
Andrew Hughes thinks Liverpool can end a tough week with a victory in East London and help to land another cross-sport multiple in the process.
Bet 1: Back Liverpool to beat West Ham at 1.834/5
In the post-Suarez era, Liverpool have so far failed to impress, and in the last week have followed a shock home defeat to Aston Villa with a scrappy Champions League win over supposedly weak Bulgarian opposition.
But although they are struggling to break down stubborn opposition at home, they may find it easier to play on the counter away from home, as they did at White Hart Lane, to earn their biggest win of the season so far.
The Reds also have a good record against West Ham, having lost just one of their last eleven encounters and have returned victorious from their last two visits to Upton Park. Back the visitors to bag all three points.
Bet 2: Back Wasps to beat Harlequins at 2.87n/a
Both sides have started their 2013-14 campaigns with a win and a defeat, but Wasps have the better form. They lost narrowly to Saracens in their opener, then pulled off a surprise by beating reigning Premiership champions Northampton last weekend.
By contrast, Harlequins' victory came against much easier opposition in the shape of London Irish and they went scoreless in their defeat against Saracens last weekend, the first time that they've failed to register a point in a game since 2009 .
Wasps have won just one of their last ten against Harlequins, but their last two defeats have been by just a single point. There is little to choose between the two sides, but Wasps are in the better form and can edge this one.
Bet 2: Back Dolphins to beat Perth at 1.9520/21
The Perth Scorchers two previous Champions League Twenty20 campaigns were dismal failures, but they are still favourites to kick off their latest tilt with a victory over the South African Twenty20 champions, Dolphins, and I think the value lies with the South African side, who beat Cape Cobras in their domestic final earlier this year.
Dolphins are missing their most dangerous batsman, David Miller, who will be lining up for Punjab instead, but Perth will be without Shaun Marsh and Simon Katich, who topped the averages for them on their way to winning the Big Bash League. The Scorchers are strong on bowling, but their batting looks lightweight and I think the value lies with the hard-working Dolphins.
