York Tips: In-Play angles for Saturday at the Ebor

Graham has found compelling angles for a busy card
Rain is on its way but it will take more than a few showers to dampen the passion of a huge crowd on Ebor day at York. Graham Cunningham has a keen eye on the forecast and has unearthed a handful of interesting back to lay possibilities at York and at Goodwood.
Seven races on Channel 4 this Saturday and picking the right battle plan for those who like to trade the in-play markets on Betfair is complex even before you factor in the moody weather forecast.
At this stage it seems like Goodwood is set for a dousing on Friday evening, while York will also be on the receiving end as the night wears on.
It all adds further problems to the punting puzzle, but the markets will be fiercely competitive and my early investigations have yielded the following conclusions:
1. Dimension is the obvious one judged on recent form in the City of York Stakes at 14:00, but heavy rain would pose a different question than the one he answered in handicap company here last time and for that reason I'm happy enough to keep the powder dry.
2. Roz might just offer some back to lay potential in Goodwood's Prestige Stakes at 14:15. Granted, Richard Hannon's Sky Lantern will be a tough nut to crack after her fine second to the smart Certify in Newmarket's Sweet Solera. However, Roz showed a fine attitude from the front to land a Sandown Listed contest. Soft ground would pose her a new question but it would come as no surprise if similar tactics to Sandown see her pre-race price shorten appreciably.
3. York's Melrose Stakes at 14:30 is almost impossibly competitive. Gospel Choir, Sir Graham Wade, Cardinal Walter and Guarantee all have loads to recommend them - but I can't split them.
4. Happy to take two bang-in-form handicappers with handy low draws in Goodwood's wide open 14:45. Arnold Lane handles plenty of give and caught the eye quickening very well before being swamped by a handicap blot here on his latest start. He still looks fairly treated and is bound for another big run, while Ducal is dead reliable and also warrants a back-to-lay interest having been a shade unlucky over course and distance last time out.
5. I'm struggling to see why Cavalryman is a much bigger price than Saddler's Rock in York's Lonsdale Cup at 15:05. Lines through various horses suggest there is precious little between the pair on recent form and, given that Cavalryman clearly relishes two miles nowadays, he has to rate the value option.
6. I'm fascinated by Goodwood's Celebration Mile at 15:20. But not so fascinated that I want to have a bet.
7. And I'm fascinated by York's Ebor Handicap to the extent that Qahriman is worth a small back to lay interest. Luca Cumani's older horses have been in prime form this week and this colt looks well treated having been raised 6lb for an emphatic course and distance success in June.
Recommended Bets
Back Arnold Lane and Ducal in Goodwood's 14:45 and lay off @ 3.55/2 in-running
Back Cavalryman in York's 15:05 and lay off @ 2.56/4 in-running
Back Qahriman in York's 15:40 and lay off @ 3.55/2 in-running
