Richard Hannon is responsible for two of Tuesday's SmartPlays
Today's SmartPlays come from the two afternoon meetings, at Epsom and Ripon...
While it would be no surprise to see Epsom Flyer put on a better show on his nursery debut at this course, our pick is another handicap debutant in Lisa's Legacy (14:15 Epsom). Richard Hannon's colt wasn't knocked about last time out when he finished a six length runner-up to odds-on favourite Brazen in a Folkestone maiden, and will be capable of better today now in nursery company. The step up to seven furlongs will certainly help Lisa's Legacy as will the expected strong pace from New Falcon and Wellingrove, which should offer those in behind the best chance, and Lisa's Legacy the opportunity to give his yard a hat-trick of wins in the race.
Another track, another nursery. Silver Ridge (15:05) makes the trip from Ralph Beckett's yard in Hampshire to Ripon this afternoon, hoping to land the prize. Another nursery debutant, Silver Ridge is coming back from a two-month break after finishing second of four runners to Maxentius in a seven-furlong minor event at Doncaster, having broken his maiden on heavy ground at Windsor on his previous outing. He's evidently effective on softer ground going by that win, and the stiff six furlongs at Ripon should offer enough of a test. Richard Kingscote is having a grand time of it at the moment, and with Silver Ridge his only ride of the day, he will be hoping to further improve his recent strike-rate.
Back at Epsom, we'll stick with Richard Hannon for our final selection, where Mayo Lad (15:55) will attempt to follow up his win at Leicester. That was just over a mile in distance, when Mayo Lad proved better than ever to win by half a length from May Be Some Time, still with plenty in hand. The 4 lb rise doesn't look enough to stop him this time, and this half-brother to Canford Cliffs has shown consistent form all season. The step back in trip wouldn't be a hindrance for Mayo Lad, who has shown his effective over as short as six furlongs in 2012, and quickening ground can only help his bid for a double.
Timeform SmartPlays
Back Lisa's Legacy @ 4.1n/a in the 14:15 at Epsom
Back Silver Ridge @ 3.185/40 in the 15:05 at Ripon
Back Mayo Lad @ 5.39/2 in the 15:55 at Epsom
