Torneo Inicial Betting: Preview of all the weekend's action

Quilmes boss Omar de Felippe

Ed Malyon brings us his weekly preview of this weekend's Torneo Inicial action and he believes that Atletico Rafaela should never be favourites v Quilmes...

It's a curious weekend of fixtures for Fecha 4 of the Torneo Inicial, and not just because there is no Friday night football. The away sides represent the majority of the value on offer, with no game that you could confidently declare a home banker.

All games are available to watch LIVE via Betfair's video streaming service, and to make things even better, I will be live tweeting Sunday's clsico between River Plate and San Lorenzo with all the best in-play betting opportunities.

Saturday

8:10pm All Boys vs Tigre

Both of these sides overachieved last season, and both are winless from their opening three games. Tigre have a point less, but have had arguably the hardest possible opening to a season in terms of fixtures and have performed far better than the results suggest. All Boys' characteristically strong defence isn't doing quite the same job as in the Clausura, and the value is on Tigre's side in this one. Lay the hosts at 2.6213/8.

8:10pm Unin Santa Fe vs Boca Juniors

Boca will be a little tired after a breakneck 3-3 draw on Wednesday night, but they can consider themselves fortunate to be playing probably the worst team in the division. The newly-crowned Copa Argentina champions will take a second-string side to play Unin, but one still capable of winning the game. They played scratch XIs on a couple of occasions last year against weak opposition due to their Copa Libertadores run and only lost one of them, they won't lose this one. Either lay Unin, or back the draw at 3.211/5 for the easy trade in-play.

10:15pm Argentinos Juniors vs Godoy Cruz

Argentinos have had a very poor start and it is a surprise to see them 2.32 favourites for this one when Godoy Cruz are already six points better off after only three fixtures. The Mendocinos stick with their winning team from last week, but Argentinos will shuffle the defence slightly, even if they go into this one on the back of their best half of football all season - scoring twice to hold champions Arsenal to a draw in Sarand. Improving Argentinos may just nick a point here and the best bet is siding with the visitors on the asian handicap.

00:20am Independiente vs Arsenal

Eleven games without victory, it is little surprise that Cristian Diaz is holding on the Independiente job with his fingertips. Had they not grabbed a stoppage time equalizer versus Boca in midweek they probably would be going into this game managerless, but this is still a hard to beat side, with just one loss in six. Arsenal were Clausura champions in June, but are slightly weaker than back then. They have had an unbeaten start and although they boast five points from three games, they really should have been looking at seven or nine given the lowly opposition they have faced so far. I fancy a draw 3.185/40 and a dull one at that.

Sunday

7:00pm Atletico Rafaela vs Quilmes

Nobody would have predicted Quilmes to be top of the league at any point this season having only just been promoted but after three games, Omar de Felippe is taking Quilmes in the footsteps of his previous employers, Olimpo, and hugely overachieving with a small, out of town club. Rafaela are going to be down the bottom of the table this season, but will be tough to beat at home, even if they don't win many. Lay Rafaela, who should never be favourites for this one.

7:10pm Belgrano vs Newell's Old Boys

Newell's are dark horses for the title this year and have started the season well with two wins and a draw. Hosts Belgrano are also unbeaten, but find themselves on five points after throwing away a 2-0 lead last time out at Coln. A very solid outfit, the Pirates have not just got decent results this season, but have done so against three good sides. Newell's are another good side, but although you'd fancy them to win in their own back yard, I make them likely to get held to a draw in Cordoba, the price is 3.02/1.

9:10pm Lans vs Racing Club

Lans surprised a lot of people last weekend in chalking up their first win under the management pair of Guillermo and Gustavo Barros Schelotto. Beating Vlez away is an impressive result for any team, and it gives them the confidence they needed before playing a team like Racing. La Academia will be tired from Thursday night's Copa Sudamericana trip to Coln, which they lost, and they will also most likely be without Diego Villar or Mauro Camoranesi following their withdrawals through injury. It would be very difficult to back Racing here, but maybe one that it's best to stay away from.

9:15pm San Martn de San Juan vs Vlez Sarsfield

Vlez are probably the most comfortable back of the weekend as they travel to San Juan. Their hosts are one of the poorest sides in the division, whereas a strongish Vlez side have now replaced the departed Mauro Obolo with the talented young striker Facundo Ferreyra. 2.3611/8 for the away win.

Monday

11:15pm Estudiantes v Coln de Santa Fe

Coln will have had a few rest days after their Thursday night continental action, so they will carry a bit more energy into this game as well as the confidence of a great performance against Racing. They are joint-top on seven points but are yet to truly convince, and they still find themselves without injured forward Rubn Ramrez. Estudiantes are only one point back, on six, and they will be very tough to beat. This looks a draw 3.185/40 all over.
