Granston's jockey Graham Lee
Timeform Radio's Rory Delargy is the man assigned the task of finding a winner or two today, and it's to Beverley that he's gone for his picks...
James Bethell's Granston may be a whiter shade of grey than when in his heyday, but the sprightly son of Revoque is no back number just yet, and is taken to gain revenge on recent conqueror Carragold when the pair clash again at Beverley today (16:05). The handicapper, mindful of the passage of time, has shown some leniency to Granston, and he's now 12 lb lower than when scoring over C&D last April.
The story of his 2012 campaign has been one of a gradual return to form as his mark has slipped, and a third to Carragold over a trip short of his best was a definite step back in the right direction. Back up to the 12f trip he seems to need these days, he has no finer man in the saddle than Graham Lee (and one who knows plenty about getting the best out of veteran performers), and he looks a solid bet to hold back the years at a current price of 5.59/2.
Those looking for a short-priced banker could do much worse than Aubrietia in the finale on the Westwood at 17:10. Alan McCabe's filly has been utterly transformed by a switch to front-running tactics on her last 2 starts, winning with something to spare at Nottingham and Warwick. She is able to race off a 3-lb lower mark than for the latter of those wins, and the handicapper has made an error of judgement in undervaluing the first of those wins. She missed an engagement at Redcar last night to run here, and should show these modest rivals a clean pair of heels from an early stage.
Recommended Bets
Back Granston in the 16:05 Beverley @ 5.59/2 (NAP)
Back Aubrietia in the 17:10 Beverley @ 2.111/10 (NB)
