Bated Breath will be hoping to make amends for his narrow defeat least year
Bated Breath's quest to claim a first Group 1 success will move on to Haydock's Sprint Cup next month after his sixth-place finish in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York last week...
Roger Charlton's sprinter was first home of those drawn high and his trainer believes the fact Spirit Quartz, who had been comprehensively beaten by Bated Breath on the two previous occasions they had met, finished in front of him proved he was on the wrong part of the track.
Twelve months ago the Khalid Abdullah-owned entire was beaten a nose by Dream Ahead in an incredibly tight finish to the Haydock race, in which Hoof It also featured.
"Bated Breath under the circumstances ran another good race and he was the first horse home of those drawn high and for some reason the race seemed to favour the low numbers," Charlton told his website, www.rogercharlton.com.
"Spirit Quartz finished second and on two previous occasions this year over five furlongs Bated Breath had beaten him three and three-quarter lengths. As long as Bated Breath remains in good shape he will be aimed at the Haydock Sprint Cup in two weeks where I hope we will see the return of fast ground."
Bated Breath is currently second favourite for the Sprint Cup, behind Nunthorpe victor Ortensia. You can bet on the race HERE.
