Womens US Open: The most likely first round upsets

Will Virginie Razzano produce another first round shock?
Gary Boswell has gone through all the first round match-ups in the first round of the US Open and arrived at five possible upset that are worth having a wager on...
Virginie Razzano to beat Jie Zheng at around 3.613/5
The world 132 ranked French woman has the recent distinction of being the first player ever to knock Serena Williams out first round of a Slam. An extraordinary tie at Roland Garros where Williams was arguably hell bent on beating herself and in which Razzano won the first five games of the third set after remarkably saving match points in the second set tie-break. She did the classic hanging in there trick that day but is likely to have things a tad easier here against Zheng who she has beaten in their previous encounter in Miami 2010 in a 6-4 6-2 canter. The price is excellent value and my number one graded potential first round shock at Flushing Meadow.
Sorana Cirstea to beat Sabine Lisicki at around 2.35/4
Second best is the 22 year old Romanian currently ranked at 38 in the world up against the 19 ranked German. Hence the prices which are also influenced by Lisicki being the one who dumped Maria Sharapova out of Wimbledon. The German's serve on grass is a fearsome weapon and it won't be so influential here on the hard court where Cirstea has chance to dictate the groundstroke rallies. The Romanian has a distinct 3-0 head to head score - all within the last four years and all achieved on the hard court surface. Cirstea often starts slowly so be ready to take the in play price should she lose the first set which she has done in two of the previous match ups. Value abounds in this one.
Ayumi Morita to beat Monica Niculescu at around 2.111/10
World 29 ranked Niculescu will be ring rusty and vulnerable in this up against the younger and 94 ranked Japanese who beat her 6-1 6-3 in their only previous meeting on clay in 2009. That previous form is very significant because you would argue that the surface heavily favoured Niculescu that day whereas the Flushing Meadow hard court greatly favours Morita. Niculescu has the greater experience and at 24 years old is perhaps approaching her prime but of the two, you could also argue that it is Morita who displays more of the je ne sais quoi ingredient that marks out future top twenty players. Niculescu has perhaps had her chance in that sphere now and is about to be leapfrogged.
Chanelle Scheepers to beat Maria Kirilenko at around 4.94/1
One of my lesser fancies to beat the book as I also quite fancy the Russian to make the second week. This is a tough first round match up for the Olympic semi-finalist to overcome though as Scheepers holds a 2-1 head to head plus on the hard court surface and a 2-2 scoreline overall. The 28 year old South African gets under Kirilenko's skin and rated at 42 in the world, she is a dangerous lurker in the draw whose chance is not reflected in her price. I rate this a very 50-50 game so all the value lies in supporting Scheepers.
Urszula Radwanska to beat Roberta Vinci at around 3.02/1
A genuine punt with my last pick as the 21 year old Polish younger sister of the world number two has a 0-2 head to head against Vinci. I put great store on previous head to heads when sorting out my bets. The Radwanska sisters are on a big upcurve at the moment though. Feeding off Agnieska's success, Urszula has risen to her career highest 44 world ranking and meets the ageing Italian at a good time to get her first win on the board. They played in the 2008 US when Urszula was just 17. She lost 4-6 4-6 that day but competed well and has come on a bundle since.
