Can the Follow The Money team score today?
Today's three bets run at Carlisle and Catterick.
We start at Carlisle and the Maiden 6f event at 14:40 in which Vanity's Girl has cemented her place at the head of the market, shortening from 3.211/5 in to 2.47/5. With all bar two of this 10 runner affair having contested more than 80 races without success, it is not a surprise that punters have been drawn to this once-raced filly and in particular her decent second in a Doncaster sprint over the minimum trip. Having missed the break that day and shown her best work at the finish, she looks sure to appreciate the step up to 6f.
To Catterick now and in the 15:30 Samarkand is the day's negative, having drifted from 2.588/5 out to 3.613/5. One win from eight starts sets alarm bells ringing straightaway and that stat isn't exactly enhanced by the fact that that victory came in June 2011 off a mark still 8lb lower than today's (on Kempton's polytrack as opposed to the soft surface currently in evidence at Carlisle). With all these factors to take into account we are happy, at the price, to take on Sir Mark Prescott's gelding.
Our final mover comes in the next at Carlisle, the Class 5 handicap at 16:00, in the shape of Hydrant who has been supported from 8.27/1 in to 5.24/1. Unable to get a blow in either of his last two runs, the gelding returns to a track where he finished third of 11 on his sole previous visit. That fact, together with a record of three places from four over this trip and his penchant for give in the ground, makes Hydrant definitely one to keep on side today.
