Why did Harry Redknapp bring in Sandro and Niko Krancjar?

Sandro will add steal to the QPR midfield

Harry Redknapp seems like quite a loyal chap who likes to bring in players that he knows. On deadline day he did it again by signing Sandro and Niko Krancjar.

We've all heard the adage that players should never risk going back to former clubs where they have been successful.

This summer we have witnessed the lure of former managers recruiting familiar faces to their playing staff.

At Chelsea, Didier Drogba was reunited with his mentor Jose Mourinho for the encore of his career.

Harry Redknapp has shown his willingness in the past to remain faithful to his players, evidenced in the likes of Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch.

On Deadline Day, Redknapp brought a pair of old friends to Loftus Road in a bid to help QPR's Premier League survival battle.

How will Harry's boys perform for Rangers?

Croatian midfielder Niko Kranjcar has now played for Redknapp at three different clubs.

Having arrived in England to join Redknapp at Portsmouth, he followed the boss to Spurs in 2009.

Kranjcar was lured back to England from Dynamo Kiev on loan last season by Redknapp and finds himself in west London once more for another tilt at the Premier League.

Clearly, the 30-year-old was delighted to return to QPR after their playoff success.

"It's a great feeling to be back, it feels like home. I felt a special emotion with the club and the fans," he declared.

Kranjcar is an effective attacking midfielder with an eye for goal. His link up play and vision will be key components for QPR if they are to survive in the top flight.

Redknapp trusts his player; he made 31 appearances in the Hoops' successful promotion from the Championship last term.

On another season-long loan from Kiev, Kranjcar represents a tried and trusted option for the QPR boss and should complement the younger players in the Rangers squad such as Jordon Mutch and Leroy Fer this season.

Brazilian Sandro on the other hand can offer steel to QPR's engine room according to the man that brought the player to Spurs from Internacional four years ago.

The 25-year-old boasts plenty Premier League experience having started 60 times for the White Hart Lane club.

He was not part of new boss Mauricio Pochettino's plans however and having secured his signature Redknapp singled him out as this summer's key target at Loftus Road.

"I couldn't be more pleased," he said. "He's been a massive target of mine all summer and I honestly didn't think we'd be able to pull it off. It's a real statement from the club."

With QPR fans bracing themselves for a season fighting for survival, the manager feels Sandro has the attributes to set the tone on the field.

"He brings energy, aggression, power and quality. They call him 'The Beast'. He's not only a top-quality footballer, but a fantastic boy as well. He'll lead by example for us," he added.

Redknapp has never been slow to talk up a new arrival, but if Sandro remains fit and well for the duration this season, then QPR will undoubtedly look back on Deadline Day as a real turning point.

Redknapp's sound bites are a mainstay of any transfer deadline day and, although the Loftus Road boss may not like the term, his latest bout of last minute wheeling and dealing ought to improve his chances of guiding QPR to safety.

Like any good general, Redknapp likes to know he can trust his foot soldiers. Little surprise therefore that Harry sought some familiar faces for the battle at hand.
