US Open 2014 Men's Betting: Djokovic to overcome Murray test in late night show

Tuesday's sole wager ended in frustration when Grigor Dimitrov blew a golden chance to level his match with Gael Monfils and virtually ensure success for my overs bet.

The Bulgarian held a 6-4 lead in the second set tie break and had the set on his forehand when he slapped a mid-court ball into the top of the net and it flew long.

Dimitrov didn't win another point in the tie break and ended the match on a double fault to hand Monfils the victory and see the Frenchman through to face Roger Federer in the last eight.

Those on my suggestion of under 34.5 games in the Federer/Roberto Bautista-Agut match would have profited quite comfortably, as the Swiss eased through in straight sets.

It's the start of the men's quarter-finals at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre today and Andy Murray faces his old rival Novak Djokovic for the 21st time for a place in the last four.

Novak leads the career series by 12-8 and their only meeting this year went the way of the Serb in straight sets in Miami earlier in the season.

Murray certainly wasn't at his best back then though, after back surgery, but he seems to be fitter now, although I have my doubts as to whether he'll ever get back to his peak condition.

The Brit landed the odds for us two days ago when he took down Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets, but the layers weren't overly impressed and don't give him much of a chance at a price of 4.1n/a.

That's the biggest price Andy has been against Novak since the Rome semi-finals on clay back in 2011 and he very nearly won that one, with Djokovic a final set tie break winner.

As much as Andy improved against Tsonga his first serve still isn't great at the moment and I expect an on-form Djokovic to expose any frailties in the Murray game

The prices don't exactly tempt me to back Djokovic in the match odds though and, under the circumstances of the really testing conditions in New York, it may pay to side with Murray being reasonably competitive in the side markets.

The weather shouldn't be a huge factor by the time these two step onto Arthur Ashe Stadium Court at around 2am UK time (9pm local) with the temperature at that point forecast to be around 28c, with 35% humidity - hot but not oppressive.

A couple of bets tempt me here, with the Djokovic 3-1 win the most appealing at around 3.814/5 and the over 37.5 games at around 1.748/11.
