Syrianska fans have had plenty to celebrate recently
Kevin Hatchard began the week with a winner in Denmark, and he isn't venturing too far in search of his next wager.
Syrianska FC v GAIS
Tuesday September 2nd, 18:20
There have been two heart-warming football stories coming out of Denmark recently. Firstly, Liverpool defender Daniel Agger rejected the glitz and glamour of some of Europe's top clubs to return to his boyhood club Brondby, in one of the most jarring yet endearing transfers of recent times. Secondly, our good friends from North Jutland, Hobro IK, did the business for us last night and beat Vestsjaelland 3-1. I may or may not have gorged on a tin of Danish butter cookies to celebrate (wipes crumbs from mouth).
A short trip across to Sweden today, so don't break out the swimwear just yet. Before you start getting excited about the possibility of a fixture from the Allsvenskan, we're digging a bit deeper and sampling the delights of the second-tier Superettan.
Ninth-placed Syrianska FC are currently pootling along in mid-table, while this evening's opponents GAIS are fourth from bottom and very much in the relegation dogfight. It tends to be feast or famine for Syrianska fans - their team has won nine league matches and lost ten, with just two draws. There is at least more consistency at their Sodertalje Fotbollsarena, where they have won six out of ten games, including the last five. Tellingly, all three of their home defeats have come against sides in the top six, which suggests they are better suited to playing inferior sides rather than being a team that causes upsets.
GAIS certainly count as an inferior side, especially on their travels. The Mackerels are fish out of water away from their Gothenburg home, having won just one of their ten away games. They have lost seven road games, and haven't scored on their travels since June.
I was originally going to recommend backing No in the Both Teams To Score market at 2.3211/8, as that bet has paid out in four of Syrianska's last six games, and three of GAIS' last four. However, Syrianska are on a roll at home, whereas GAIS have proven themselves to be terrible travellers, so the home win looks overpriced at 2.447/5.
Recommended Bet
Back Syrianska FC to win at 2.447/5
