Dimitrov could be in for a long match against Monfils
The last of the fourth round matches in the men's singles are the order of day on Tuesday at the US Open and after another two winners on Monday Sean Calvert talks us through the best bets in New York today...
Week two at Flushing Meadows got off to a fine start on Monday when Andy Murray was a straight sets winner over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Stan Wawrinka and Tommy Robredo went past the overs mark in their clash.
It's set to be extremely hot and humid in New York again today, with the dial hitting 34c and with humidity over 50 percent it will feel hotter.
There'll also be wind of around 11mph and likely thunderstorms later in the day, so it will be testing for the players once again.
Perhaps the most intriguing match of the day is set for around 2pm local time (7pm UK) between Grigor Dimitrov and Gael Monfils and at that stage of the day it's set to feel like 36C and probably hotter on court.
So, much will depend on who's the fitter on the day and that is total guesswork, as if it wasn't tricky enough trying to second guess what sort of mood Monfils will be in anyway.
Dimitrov struggled in the heat and humidity early on against David Goffin and was bagelled in set one of that match, while Lamonf handled it much better than his opponent Richard Gasquet.
Monfils knocked Dimitrov out of the 2011 US Open in straight sets, but that seems an unlikely result to be repeated today and overall Gael's record in fourth rounds of majors reads 5-4 currently.
The Frenchman has won his last three and I get the impression that he's enjoying himself at this tournament, which should make for a competitive match today.
Monfils, despite his regular messing around, usually gets involved in at least one long battle at majors and he's due one today after three comfortable wins thus far.
Despite the heat I think this will go long and the over 39.5 total games appeals here at around 1.845/6.
Roger Federer's match with Roberto Bautista-Agut could well be delayed by thunderstorms, but it's currently scheduled for midnight UK time.
It could well be one of those nights when the players are on and off court numerous times, but assuming they do manage to get this match played it looks a good match-up for Federer.
RBA had to battle to overcome a poor lead-up to this tournament and a stern test from Andreas Haider-Maurer in round one, but he's found his form and may give Roger a decent workout at times.
A crisp ball striker, good mover, and a flatter hitter than many Spaniards he can trouble the top players, but his serve isn't big enough and although he has beaten Juan Martin Del Potro and Tomas Berdych on hard courts this year he doesn't have the extra in his game to beat an in-form Federer.
The Swiss dropped a set against Marcel Granollers, who came out with a very aggressive game plan, but was soon found out in sets two to four, and RBA doesn't really have that serve/volley game and will try and beat Fed from the back.
I can't see him doing it and if I were betting in this one I'd probably take the under 34.5 total games.
