Russell Slade's Leyton Orient are frequent scorers on the road
Michael Lintorn picks out the best bets for cup ties involving Peterborough, Preston and Coventry....
Peterborough v Leyton Orient
Tuesday, 19:45
Live on Sky Sports 1
Match Odds: Peterborough 2.568/5, Leyton Orient 3.02/1, The Draw 3.55n/a
Holders Peterborough have been provided with a horrible start to their defence in hosting Leyton Orient, who possess both one of the fiercest squads in League One and ample cup pedigree having conquered Aston Villa (last month), Swansea, Norwich and Charlton in cup action this decade.
The O's have kicked off the campaign in middling form but are unbeaten in seven away days and have fired just three blanks in their past 35 road trips. Peterborough have netted in every clash with a third-tier rival to date this season, so both teams to score entices, and paid out in their previous seven head-to-heads.
Recommended Bet: Back both teams to score @ 1.75/7
Preston v Shrewsbury (Tuesday, 19:45)
Match Odds: Preston 1.774/5, Shrewsbury 5.39/2, The Draw 3.953/1
There is quite the case for laying Preston at 1.784/5 given that they have only won one of their eight Johnstone's Paint Trophy matches since relegation from the Championship in 90 minutes (insanely, five went to penalties) and Shrewsbury defeated Blackpool and Leicester in the Capital One Cup.
However, the most attractive bet of all appears to be under 2.5 goals at 1.981/1. It has been a feature of five of Preston's first seven 2014/15 fixtures - the exceptions coming when they were much too good (Scunthorpe) and not formidable enough (Middlesbrough) - as well as each of Shrewsbury's latest three.
Recommended Bet: Back under 2.5 goals @ 1.981/1
Wycombe v Coventry (Tuesday, 19:45)
Match Odds: Wycombe 3.02/1, Coventry 2.588/5, The Draw 3.55n/a
Coventry have picked a fine time to regain access to the Ricoh Arena because the travelling success that kept them out of danger last term has deserted them recently. The Sky Blues won none of their initial three away games this season, having lost seven and drawn one of their final nine in 2013/14.
They are therefore vulnerable in visiting League Two side Wycombe, who occupy a play-off place after an encouraging opening of three wins and a draw from five encounters. The Chairboys were also unlucky to be beaten 0-1 at sharp-starting Championship club Millwall in the Capital One Cup.
Recommended Bet: Back Wycombe (draw no bet) to win @ 2.111/10
