World Cup 2014: Klose and four other tasty free agents

Germany have excelled in the two games Miroslav Klose started

Harry Redknapp and pals rejoice, World Cup 2014's knockout phase has featured plenty of out-of-contract stars...

Several of the World Cup's hottest free agents have already been snapped up - David Villa, Bacary Sagna and, erm, Philippe Senderos - but plenty remain, as this list of five players who have all had a positive impact in Brazil proves...

Miroslav Klose
The recently-decorated all-time leading World Cup scorer, whose reinstallation in the Germany side for the quarter-finals triggered their return to form, can be purchased without a fee after his Lazio contract expired. Don't let the 36 years on the clock put you off, as he has averaged almost a goal every other game in stingy Serie A. It is 1.834/5 that he brings a World Cup winner medal with him.

Guillermo Ochoa
Don't be fooled by Manuel Neuer's knockout-round excellence, Mexico's expert goal-repeller Ochoa was this World Cup's king keeper. The 28-year-old was the sole custodian to shut out Brazil and did the same to Cameroon, with his only concessions throughout occurring in the final four minutes of matches. Having adjusted to European football in three years at Ajaccio, everyone should want him.

Daniel van Buyten
Tasked with picking the perfect partner for Vincent Kompany, Belgium boss Marc Wilmots shunned Jan Vertonghen, Thomas Vermaelen, Toby Alderweireld and Nicolas Lombaerts in favour of DvB. The 36-year-old, who is no longer tied to Bayern Munich, was Belgium's one ever-present outfield starter in a tournament where they gave away just two regulation-time goals, one of which was a penalty.

Georgio Samaras
The infrequently-scoring former Celtic forward waited over two years for his first international strike since netting against Germany at Euro 2012, but couldn't have timed his intervention better. With Greece heading out deep into their closing Group C clash with Ivory Coast, Samaras selflessly took it upon himself to tumble over for a dubious 93rd-minute penalty, stepping up to convert it as well.

Gonzalo Jara
Few eyebrows were raised when Nottingham Forest included Jara in their released players list in May, but his chances of attracting enticing future employers have been heavily enhanced by starting all four of Chile's World Cup fixtures, in which they went unbeaten and leaked only a goal a game. There were even unsubstantiated reports of Everton showing an interest in the versatile defender.
