Back Bouchard to get to the semi final
We're down to the final eight in Paris and Abelson Info evaluate which stars will prevail in the top half of the draw...
When world number one Serena Williams isn't involved at this stage of a major tournament, it always comes as a shock given the dominance she tends to enjoy.
However, she is out of the picture in the French capital and as a result it presents Maria Sharapova with an ideal opportunity to add to her Grand Slam collection.
The Russian star has undoubtedly found her form and fitness over the past few months following a debilitating spell on the sidelines with injuries, and triumph in Paris would be ideal ahead of a summer in London.
Having ruled her out of contention prior to the tournament starting due to the fact that she was scheduled to meet Williams at this stage, there is no reason why she shouldn't be confident in her ability to now go all the way.
Sharapova had a relatively comfortable run until the last round, with Sam Stosur clinching the first set in their encounter before the seventh seed finished the match off in style.
Nevertheless, her next test will be difficult as she faces Garbine Muguruza, the Spanish starlet who was guilty of removing the top seed in the second round.
The pair have only met on one previous occasion, with Sharapova winning comfortably on the clay in Rome last year and that is sure to give her some reassurance against a rival that will have almost no pressure on her shoulders.
While the 2012 champion is prone to a wobble in confidence during matches, we expect her to be able to end Muguruza's dream run in the French capital and march on towards another title.
Meanwhile, the other quarter-final of the day sees Canadian sensation Eugenie Bouchard face Carla Suarez Navarro in a tough match-up.
Having lifted her first WTA title prior to arriving in Paris, Bouchard has continued her winning streak in impressive style which in turn has led her to her second successive Grand Slam quarter-final.
The 20-year-old continues to go from strength-to-strength and is undoubtedly a superstar in the making if she can continue to develop her game, but ultimately she has already arrived and this is a great opportunity for her.
Having brushed aside eighth seed Angelique Kerber in the last round, she will find life tougher against clay specialist Navarro, and despite losing their only previous clash which was at Wimbledon last year, there is no reason why Bouchard won't feel as though she is capable of winning on Tuesday.
While she is the favourite for this encounter, her match odds are worth considering, but the set betting market is where the value is.
