The third round draws to a close on Saturday, and Abelson Info are here to preview some of the top clashes whilst looking ahead to some potential fourth round blockbusters...
The numbers are dwindling at Wimbledon, but world number one Serena Williams leads a star-studded cast on Saturday with no less than 10 of the world's top 25 players in action.
Having previously discussed the American's troubles prior to this tournament, particularly after falling short in both Melbourne and Paris, she has progressed thus far with minimal fuss having dropped just a handful of games in her opening two matches.
Things will likely become a little tougher here on out, starting with a third round match-up with feisty Frenchwoman Alize Cornet.
However, aside from the fact that Cornet will find it difficult to cope with the power and precision of her rival, she has also been put through back-to-back gruelling three-set matches. As a result, Williams will jump on any hint of fatigue and make her pay for it, and so there are no surprises expected here.
While many are still looking as far ahead as a quarter-final encounter with old foe Maria Sharapova, both women have difficult assignments prior to that, with the Russian taking on Alison Riske.
Should Williams win, then a fourth round clash with Eugenie Bouchard will certainly be one to watch, while Sharapova could face big-hitting German Angelique Kerber next time out.
Nevertheless, Bouchard and Kerber face tough tests of their own on Saturday, facing Andrea Petkovic and Kirsten Flipkens respectively.
Although Petkovic is now seemingly playing consistent tennis and is injury free, Bouchard is gunning for a third straight Grand Slam semi-final berth at the very least, and the Canadian starlet should have enough to beat her opponent.
However, it is worth noting that the German star has won all three of their previous meetings, the most recent of which came in Charleston earlier this year, but they have yet to play on grass and Bouchard has gone up another level since.
Meanwhile, last year's semi-finalist Flipkens hasn't enjoyed the best of years to date, and while she looks much more comfortable on this surface again, an in-form Kerber will potentially have too much for her to handle.
Eastbourne champion Madison Keys is also in action on Saturday, and we envisage the American youngster continuing her strong form against Yaroslava Shvedova who may come up short after two impressive yet undoubtedly tiring performances already.
Elsewhere, there is what many would label as the match of the round, as Ana Ivanovic and Sabine Lisicki prepare to square off.
Ivanovic beat her opponent in their only previous meeting earlier this year in Stuttgart, but there is no denying that Lisicki is a completely different proposition on this surface having been to the quarter-finals or better in each of her last four visits to SW19.
While it will be a shame to lose either of these players so early, Lisicki will relish the prospect of taking Ivanovic on and continuing her great form on grass, despite the Serbian ace being in tremendous form after arriving off the back of her title win in Birmingham.
Recommended Bets
Back Lisicki to beat Ivanovic @ 2.789/5
Back Bouchard to beat Petkovic 2-1 @ 4.216/5
