United target Wolfsburg full-back whilst Cleverley linked with move - Transfer Talk

Tom Cleverley's exit from Old Trafford could be a good move for both parties.

Manchester United may have splashed the cash on Luke Shaw but reports are suggesting that they are also targeting another new full-back...

German daily WAZ claims Manchester United to have made an approach for Wolfsburg full-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

The highly-rated defender featured in every game for Switzerland at the World Cup, helping his side to reach the last-16. Boss Louis van Gaal will face a tough task in securing the 21-year-old after Wolfsburg's sporting director Claus Allofs said none of the club's stars would be allowed to leave this summer.

The former Zurich man is currently contracted to the German outfit until the summer of 2016 and the Volkswagen Arena side are expected to demand a large fee for his services.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are hoping to negotiate a deal to take Arsenal front man Joel Campbell on loan next season, according to the Daily Star. The two sides are currently negotiating a deal for defender Mathieu Debuchy, who is edging closer to an 11million move to the Emirates.

The Magpies are hopeful that they can use the talks to their advantage by offering the Costa Rica international the chance to get regular first team football in the Premier League. Campbell has been an Arsenal player since 2011, but is yet to play a game under Arsene Wenger after failing to be granted a world permit.

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has left the door open to a possible move to Manchester United after returning from the World Cup. The Belgium international slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates last term and is understood to be keen on an exit. United have lost Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand this summer and the Manchester Evening News understands Louis van Gaal sees the 28-year-old as the perfect replacement.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are closing in on a deal for Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez and the Daily Mail has reported that they hope to have their man by the start of next week.

Sanchez's representatives are due to arrive in London in the coming days to finalise the contract with the former Udinese man expected to earn 140,000-a-week - the same as top earner Mesut Ozil. The north London club will have to part with 30million to beat off interest from Manchester United and Juventus.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is hoping to take advantage of Tom Cleverley's situation at Manchester United, according to the Daily Star. Cleverley has fallen even further down the pecking order at Old Trafford, after the signing of Ander Herrera, and Martinez is interested in taking the 24-year-old at a cut-price. The midfielder has just 12 months remaining on his current deal and would be handed more opportunities by the Spaniard.
