Friday Transfer Rumours - Barcelona closing in on Luis Suarez

Edinson Cavani is the latest player to be linked to a move to Old Trafford

Both Uruguayan strikers from last night's starting XI are linked with moves today, one to the Premier League and one away from it. Also news on George Thorne. Here is the Friday transfer gossip...

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has cooled talk that he is heading to Manchester United this summer. The Belgium international spent the majority of last term on the bench for the Gunners and has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal looks to strengthen. Sky Sports are reporting that the north London club have slapped a 10million price tag on the centre back, but Vermaelen insists he is going nowhere.

Derby County look set to miss out on the services of West Brom midfielder George Thorne, according to Clubcall. Thorne spent some of last season out on loan and was expected to be one of many heading for the exit this summer. However, new Baggies boss Alan Irvine is keen on keeping the promising youngster at the Hawthorns and has warned that the club won't be listening to offers.

Clubcall has also reported that Liverpool are ready to step up their pursuit of Southampton duo Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren. The Reds are preparing an offer, which will see Fabio Borini head in the other direction along with a cash-sum as Brendan Rodgers ensures that he gets his top targets.

Liverpool and Uruguay front man Luis Suarez is close to finalising a deal with Spanish giants Barcelona, according to El Mundo Deportivo. Barca boss Luis Enrique has pinpointed the former Ajax man as his top target as he looks to change the style of the Catalan outfit. It is understood that a fee of 51milllion will be paid for his services.

The Express has reported that Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani, who is growing frustrated at his lack of opportunities in Ligue 1. The former Napoli man has made it clear that he wants to be a regular and it is understood that Louis van Gaal and the Red Devils are prepared to meet those demands.

Newcastle target Pierre-Michel Lasogga is understood to be on his way to Hamburg rather than the Premier League. The Magpies were in advanced talks with the Hertha Berlin man but have seen their advances hijacked by the Bundesliga outfit. He has made it clear he would prefer a stay in Germany if the right offer came his way. The front-man spent last term on loan with Hamburg and he is expected to return on a permanent deal rather than make the move to England.
