League Two Transfer Round-up - Pompey sign Atangana & Matt Tubbs choose next club

Could Calvin Zola be returning to the Pirelli Stadium?

I know it isn't exactly Toni Kroos or Mats Hummels but for fans of League Two clubs, the transfer market is just as important. Here is the latest news from League Two clubs regarding transfers and rumours...

Portsmouth have made their first signing involving a transfer fee since the community took over the running of the 116 year-old club. Nigel Atangana has put pen to paper on a two-year deal from local non-league side Havant & Waterlooville.

Manager Andy Awford told the local newspaper, the Portsmouth News, 'I watched Nigel a lot of times last year. I must have seen Havant play eight to 10 times last year and he featured in those games.' The 24 year-old has signed for an undisclosed fee.

Over on the South East Essex Riviera, Southend United are locked in a tussle with League One Yeovil Town for former Liverpool defender Jakub Sokolik according to The Southend Echo.

The Czech defender ended last season on loan at Roots Hall and formed a tough defensive partnership with fellow loanee John Egan. Phil Brown is keen to lock down the 20 year-old and expects the player to make his final decision within 48 hours.

AFC Wimbledon have made a splash by signing the highly-rated Matt Tubbs on a season-long loan deal from Championship club AFC Bournemouth.

The 29 year-old hasn't fully settled on the south coast but is only a couple of years removed from a sensational 58 goals in 78 appearances record for Crawley Town. Dons fans seem unsurprisingly delighted at the signing, who'll already be expected to fight for the top scorer in League Two. The striker has revealed he had options from League One, League Two and Conference clubs.

Exeter City have confirmed that Matt Oakley will remain on staff for another season to take it two 20 years in professional football.

The 36 year-old who was once tipped to play for England by Gordon Strachan following a two-goal performance in an FA Cup replay at Millwall, has been a consummate pro and will bring experience to the young squad at St. James' Park.

Staying in the south west, 23 year-old midfielder Conor Hourihane only has a year remaining on his contract and is attracting interest from clubs in League One according to the Plymouth Herald.

Barnsley have already had one big knocked back but are expected to return with an improved offer. Plymouth manager John Sheridan called the initial offer, 'ridiculous' and wants to keep the player but knows that every player is available at the right price.

Lastly Burton Albion have signed one striker and are being heavily linked with another. They secured the services of Lucas Akins from Stevenage for an undisclosed fee but they aren't finishing there.

The Burton Mail is reporting that manager Gary Rowett is keeping an eye on Calvin Zola, who was released by Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen in the summer. He had scored 34 times in 96 appearances in a previous spell at Pirelli Stadium.
