Against All Odds: Cruzeiro to thrash Flamengo

Following his winner in Brazil last night, Paul Robinson stays there today as he feels that reigning champions, Cruzeiro, will rack up the goals against the struggling, Flamengo.

Cruzeiro go into their final match before the break for the World Cup sitting pretty at the top of the league. They did suffer a loss at Corinthians in midweek though and they will be keen to atone for that performance and reassert their dominance of the division.

It's the goal-side of things we're concentrating on tonight though and with 15 scored and 10 conceded, their matches are averaging 3.13 goals each time - the highest in the league. Five of their eight fixtures have gone over 2.5, and while only one of Marcelo Oliveira's team's three home games have gone over, the two that missed out only did so by a single goal.

Flamengo are enduring a miserable campaign as last year's Copa do Brasil winners are floundering down in 18th place having collected just seven points from a possible 24. Their hopes now rest with new manager, Ney Franco, following his deflection from Vitoria BA.

The Brazilian has managed to steady the ship since his arrival as 'Big Mengo' have drawn their last three outings, but for a club of their stature, he'll have to start winning games soon.

As far as the goals go, while only one of their eight this term have had three or more - a 4-2 victory over Palmeiras back at the beginning of the month - there are reasons to believe we'll see goals this evening. They are very vulnerable right now and as they've lost seven of their last nine league matches on the road, they could well take a bit of a beating at the hands of the defending champs.

The hosts will be well up for this match after Wednesday's reverse at Corinthians and I can see them taking out their frustrations on the visitors. That's why, with under 2.5 goals trading at around the 1.855/6 mark, I have to make it my lay of the day.
