Ascot host a good card on Friday.Timeform bring you selections from Ascot and Wolverhampton on Friday...
Hat-trick seeking Idler reappears under a penalty in the opening contest at Ascot and he goes in as our first SmartPlay. Mark Johnston's progressive colt has already notched up four handicap victories this term and his most recent, which came at Newmarket on Saturday, was arguably his most impressive, quickening from the front to win by a comfortable four-and-a-half lengths. Idler has obvious claims based on that effort and, with the prospect of more to come, he can register a third consecutive success.
We wait until the final race on the Ascot card for our next bet. Born To Surprise has always been held in high regard and he went some way to justifying that reputation when scoring in handicap company for the first time at Doncaster, travelling in the style of a horse that may be capable of making his mark at a higher level. The 5 lb rise in the weights he incurred for that victory looks in no way prohibitive and Born To Surprise should take this en route to better things.
Our final SmartPlay comes from Wolverhampton this evening, where we take a chance that Miss Dashwood (20:45) can go one better than she managed on her handicap debut. Three rather inauspicious starts in maidens ensured that James Fanshawe's filly entered handicap company on a fair mark, and her first effort in this sphere certainly indicated that she was up to winning races, finishing well to grab second place at Kempton, only narrowly failing to overhaul the winner. The slight step up in trip should suit Miss Dashwood and this represents a good opportunity for the lightly-raced three-year-old to get off the mark.
