David's bets both run at Wincanton
David Cleary outlines his two best bets for Sunday.
There's some very informative jumping action in prospect this afternoon at both Aintree and Wincanton, though it's been wet overnight and this morning on Merseyside and conditions at Aintree will be a fair bit more testing than they were for yesterday's meeting. In the circumstances it may be best to look for the best bets at this stage at Wincanton.
The staying handicap chase at 13:55, named in honour of Desert Orchid, no less, has a few dodgy customers in it, not least among them the morning favourite Minella Stars. More straightforward and the bet in the race is Reach For The Top who will take plenty of pegging back if in the same form as when winning at Kempton in the spring. That was his first run after a lengthy break, so an absence since should be no handicap.
There are some interesting runners in the novice hurdle which follows, at 14:30 and Comeonginger could well be a future star for the Paul Nicholls yard, but he's priced accordingly and Virgina Ash makes much more appeal at the odds. He was highly tried in bumpers but the form of his debut (in a listed event at Cheltenham) has proved really strong and if he's back in that sort of form after a break he'll be thereabouts on his hurdling debut. His stable had three winners yesterday and couldn't be in better form, while he's bred to stay well and starting off at two and three quarter miles ought to suit him ideally.
Recommended Bets:
Back Reach For The Top @ 6.05/1 in the 13.55 at Wincanton
Back Virginia Ash @ 9.08/1 in the 14.30 at Wincanton
