The Paul Nicholls-trained Tigre d'Aron goes chasing at Fontwell
Horses appearing at Fontwell, Newmarket and Worcester feature in today's SmartPlays...
Tigre d'Aron (14:20 Fontwell) made a winning start over hurdles for Howard Johnson at Wetherby in 2011/12 and, though failing to show the benefit of a switch to Paul Nicholls in a couple of handicaps last season, he could be a major force now tackling the larger obstacles. The yard have an almost one-in-two success rate in chases at this track and they seem to have found a good opportunity to get off the mark over fences at the first attempt.
As a brother to useful Cantabria and a half-brother to the smart Deportivo, So Beloved (15:05 Newmarket) is bred to be decent; he looked potentially as good as either of those when readily taking care of Tawhid (a subsequent winner) in a Salisbury maiden earlier this month. He will need to produce more to land this minor event, but the manner of that victory offers plenty of promise and he should take this on his way to better things in 2013.
Horatio Hornblower (16:55 Worcester) went into many notebooks (including ours) when belying inexperience to be placed in a warm listed bumper at Newbury on his racecourse bow in February. Despite finishing nearer last than first in the Champion Bumper subsequently, he's very much one to keep on side now tackling hurdles, featuring in our Fifty to Follow for the 2012/13 Jumps season as one of our Top 10 prospects.
