Cox Plate: Timeform Runner-by-Runner Guide

The Cox Plate is at Moonee Valley on Saturday

Timeform run the rule over the field for the G1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday (07:15 BST).

Shoot Out scored a terrific win in the George Main first up and was sound giving weight away in the Epsom. Has a terrific profile for the Cox Plate. Expecting him to be there at the business end.

Sincero chased Ocean Park bravely in the Caulfield Stakes but the race was run to suit. Peak of his form gives him a look at this but he is a big query at a strongly run 2040m.

Glass Harmonium isn't the most reliable type and would need to go to a clear new peak to come out on top here and that's not likely on the back of plain latest effort in the Toorak.

Green Moon won the Turnbull in good style. More to do here, he has to go to a new level, but he appears to be still improving and is not one to be readily dismissed.

Rekindled Interest has a good record here at the Valley, ran hird in this race last year, but this is a far stronger renewal and doubt he can find enough to figure.

Linton was ridden upside down in the Turnbull but was very plain and he has a whole lot more on his plate here. Peak of his form is still well short of what is required.

Happy Trails was terrific in holding off Green Moon to win the Feehan here but that horse among others improved past him last time out and he looks to face a tough task now.

Ethiopia was a Derby winner at just his fourth start and two runs this time in have been sound. Nice horse with a good future but expect he will find at least a couple of these too smart today.

Ocean Park is unbeaten in three this campaign, all at Group 1 level. This is far and away his toughest test but yet set a foot wrong this spring and he comes to the table with the right tools to get the job done.

More Joyousis a top-class mare capable of winning this on the pick of her form but she's yet to produce that this campaign, or in Melbourne, and remains some query at the longer trip.

Southern Speed is last year's Caulfield Cup winner. Had been racing at the top of her form early this campaign but was well below that at latest and would need a new peak to figure in this.

Pierro was one of the top juveniles seen in this country and did his reputation little harm with his narrow and brave defeat in the Caulfield Guineas. Remains a strong winning prospect here.

All Too Hard put it all together to take down Pierro and win the Caulfield Guineas. Have to respect that high class piece of form, though, both breeding and history suggest he faces a monumental task here.

Proisir has taken giant strides in just four starts, narrowly defeated for the first time in the Spring Champion last start. Form is strong in just his first campaign a win here would be some feat.

Timeform 1-2-3
1. Ocean Park
2. Shoot Out
3. Pierro

Timeform View: Good renewal. Ocean Park is yet to falter this campaign and while this is his toughest test the prospect of a strong tempo can see him better suited than in latest couple. Shoot Out was terrific in the George Main, flies third up, and has a great profile for this race. Market looks to have undervalued him. Pierro is still seen as the top of his generation despite Guineas defeat.
