Timeform's Australian team suggest a trio of bets at Caulfield on Saturday...
A few skinny races from a punting perspective on Guineas Day but the card kicks off with a terrific betting handicap, the Weekend Hussler Stakes (02:30 BST) over 1400m. Smokin' Joey has finished off nicely in both runs this time in and looks to have found the right race now. Best form last campaign makes him mighty hard to beat here and the 6.25/1 on offer looks a worthy gamble.
The Toorak Handicap (05:30 BST) is lacking in depth this year with star mare More Joyous seemingly scaring a few away. The ever compressing weight spread does give her a good chance to carry the 60kgs and win but it is certainly no penalty kick. With history against her the current odds on offer look a touch skinny. Solzhenitsyn was good in the Rupert Clarke last time and the mile looks sure to suit him now. 5.59/2 looks a good play away from the favourite.
The Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (06:50 BST) gives Aussie punters a first look at a couple of the international visitors down for the spring with Gatewood and Shahwardi set to run in the 2400m Cups lead up. The progressive Gatewood appeals as being very well placed here and would prove too smart for this lot provided he has settled in well. Early money for him suggests that he has and that being the case the 4.03/1 still available looks a good bet.
