It's Champions League of bust for Jose
It's that time of the week for the big Wednesday multiple as Paul Robinson selects a home win, an away win, a match to go over 2.5 goals and a match to go under 2.5 goals. Here are his selections:
Bet 1: Arsenal (HOME) @ 1.36 (1/3)
Arsenal take on Olympiakos in the Champions League tonight in what looks like a routine home victory.
The Gunners have made a fine start to the season with the only blip coming against Chelsea on Saturday. Two goals conceded from set pieces should see the impressive Per Mertesacker restored to the starting line up and I expect the experienced German to shore things up.
While Arsenal won their opening group game, away at Montpellier, Olympiakos went down to a home defeat to Schalke. While the German side were tough opposition, so are Arsenal, and Olympiakos are usually poor on their travels in Europe; in fact, it's five defeats in their last seven away games.
Bet 2: Real Madrid (AWAY) @ 1.47 (1/2)
With the La Liga title almost out of reach after only half a dozen fixtures, it's likely that Jose Mourinho will have 100% focus on delivering the Champions League to the Bernabeu this year.
After opening up with a last ditch 3-2 win over Manchester City, Real will still be keen to take maximum points from the group's weakest side as a trip to the Etihad and two games against Dortmund might not yield too many points. Madrid have won four of their last six away from home in this competition and they kept clean sheets in all of the victories.
Ajax aren't the force of old and having Ryan Babel as a lone striker against Dortmund shows just how far they have sunk. Nevertheless, they did only get beaten 1-0 in Germany, but the scoreline did flatter them somewhat.
These two met in the group phase last year with Real running out 3-0 winners in Holland and I expect more of the same this evening.
Bet 3: FC Inter v KuPS (Over 2.5 goals) @ 1.48 (1/2)
Our goalfest of the day comes from Finland as Inter Turku take on KuPS in the Veikkausliiga. A win for Inter will see them top the table while a win for KuPS will ease their relegation worries.
Inter's matches have been averaging 3.11 goals each time so far this season, with five of their last seven at home going over 2.5, including a 3-3 draw last time out against TPS.
KuPS' haven't been quite as prolific but they are still averaging a solid 2.71, with three of their last half dozen going over. On the road they have conceded seven in their last three, including four to HJK last week.
The last four scorelines between these two read; 0-6. 2-1, 2-1 and 4-4, and I expect more of the same today.
Bet 4: Envigado v Once Caldas (Under 2.5 goals) @ 1.62 (3/5)
You can usually rely on South America to deliver a low scoring affair and I'm hopeful that Envigado and Once Caldas can do the business for us tonight and close out the multi.
These two are 17th and 11th in the Colombian Primera A table respectively and it should be a pretty tight game.
Envigado's matches are averaging a mere 1.73 goals so far this campaign and four of their five at home have gone under 2.5, including a 0-0 draw just over a week ago.
Once Caldas on the other hand have been involved in more high scoring games, but two of their last four on the road have gone under. It is worth noting that they only scored three goals themselves in that four game period and as they face blunt opposition tonight, 0-0 or 1-1 appear likely scorelines.
