Raul Ibanez enjoys the moment as the Yankees beat St Louis yesterday
With three games played in each, the Yankees-Orioles and Nationals-Cardinals Divisional Series have reached key stages. Peter Dolan has the best bets from tonight's MLB match-ups
St Louis Cardinals @ Washington Nationals
21:00, ESPN America
(St Louis Cardinals lead series 2-1)
The Cardinals won 8-0 last night to take a 2-1 series lead. Tonight they start Kyle Lohse with the aim on clinching the series. Lohse was 16-3, 2.86 ERA in the regular season and is 4-2, 5.23 ERA career against Washington. The Nationals look to Ross Detwiler to keep their season alive. Detwiler was 10-8, 3.40 ERA in the regular season and has given up twelve runs over 7.1 innings in his last two starts, including seven runs over 2.1 innings in his last outing on 30 September, against the Cardinals. The Nationals aren't having too much success with the bat - Bryce Harper is 1 for 15 in this series and Jayson Werth is 3 for 12 with no RBIs. They may live to regret shutting down Stephen Strasburg early.
I have to back the defending champions this evening to finish off the men from DC and advance to the NLCS.
Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees
00:30 ESPN America
(New York Yankees lead series 2-1)
After 12 innings of baseball the Yankees won 3-2 last night to take a 2-1 series lead. The Orioles were 2-1 up going into the bottom of the ninth inning, but Raul Ibanez's home-run tied up the game before the 40-year-old also blasted the walk-off home run. The Orioles start Joe Saunders tonight as they try to keep their World Series dreams alive. Saunders was 9-13, 4.07 ERA in the regular season. He has pitched already this post-season, conceding just one earned run in the Orioles' 5-1 victory in the wild card game against Texas. Phil Hughes starts for the Bronx Bombers. Hughes was 16-13, 4.23 ERA, including 11-4, 3.74 ERA at Yankee Stadium, during the regular season. I think the Yankees might be too strong again for the Orioles tonight.
