The Palmeiras players will have one eye on results elsewhere
It's the final day of the Brazilian season and Paul Robinson doesn't think that Palmeiras will get the win they need to guarantee their safety.
Palmeiras v Atletico PR
Sunday December 7, 19:00 GMT
Following their promotion from Serie B last term, Palmeiras looked pretty safe going into the final month of the campaign. A disastrous run of form that has seen them lose five on the bounce has them hovering just a point above the relegation zone, with both Vitoria and Bahia within striking distance.
It comes as no real surprise that Dorival Jnior's men are odds-on for this clash as they have absolutely everything to play for while Atletico PR can finish no higher than their current position. The thing is though, Palmeiras have been needing wins for weeks and they've lost to Atletico Mineiro, Sao Paulo, Sport Recife, Coritiba and Internacional. Two of those were at home and they didn't even score a goal - in fact, 'Alviverde' netted just once during that five match period.
Atletico PR had a wonderful season last year but things didn't really pan out for most of this campaign. They are finishing with a flourish though and the Parana based club have won seven of their last 10 outings.
That's why I'm not overly bothered by their perceived lack of motivation this evening as Claudinei Oliveira's men have had nothing really to play for, for at least a month. That hasn't stopped them from winning their last two games and while they had been poor on the road earlier in the season, they've now taken nine points from a possible 12 away from Arena da Baixada.
Odds-on for the hosts is questionable, but 1.4640/85 is an absolute joke - no matter what the outcome is. That's why, I simply have to make Palmeiras my lay of the day.
