Michael Owen: Some movie suggesions for the not so self-confessed film buff

This film looks scary - I'll sit behind these chairs thanks!

Earlier today Michael Owen admitted on Twitter to watching only his eighth film in his entire life. What is he missing? Mike Norman suggests some more 'fictional' films the former Liverpool and England striker might be tempted to sit through...

1. (North) West Slide Story

The tale of a famous football club based in the north west of England who went from dominating Europe to failing to win a league title in almost a quarter of a decade. Starring Roy Evans and Gerard Houllier in leading roles, and Bernard Diomede, Erik Meijer, and an amateur golfer named Julian Dicks in supporting roles.

2. The Silence of the Lions

It's the late 90s, a young English striker scores a world class goal for his country against fierce rivals Argentina, and back in Manchester a plethora of starlets are emerging. This is the golden generation for England - the world is at their mercy. But there's another force out there, General Zod and his trusty lieutenants want to silence the Three Lions. Can they achieve their aim? Gripping horror starring Kevin Keegan, Sven-Goran Eriksson, and Steve McClaren as the baddies determined to stop English football in its tracks.

3. Dumb and Dumber

A legendary Liverpool striker is plagued by injuries, his startling career for the club he adores is coming to an end; the man who once ran 100m in 9.87 seconds is now being left for dead by Dietmar Hamann. This is an uplifting tale about a striker who could no longer hit a barn door with a banjo being thrown a lifeline by dumb Real Madrid and an even dumber Newcastle United.

4. All Quiet on the (North) Western Front

Brilliant sequel to (North) West Slide Story. It's approaching 25 years since one of England's most famous and successful clubs won a league title, and it's all gone quiet on Merseyside as they struggle in the Premier League. Fascinating family drama starring Brendan Rodgers as a man at war with England as he strives to improve his own club's fortunes, and Raheem Sterling as the lazy teenager too tired to play for his country but who turns into Billy Whizz for his regular employers.

What movies would you suggest to Michael Owen to watch? Jaws featuring Luis Suarez perhaps, or 12 Angry men featuring Luis Suarez in a dozen different roles? Let us know by commenting below or tweeting @Betfair
