Jamie Spencer will be aboard Sutton Veny at 16:00.Yesterday's foray to Kelso was unsuccessful but, back on his favoured surface this afternoon, Timeform's Matt Gardner is confident of going well...
14:00 - Stir Trader makes some appeal in the opening leg but his opening handicap mark looks stiff enough so we will side with Light From Mars and Chookie Avon. The former put up his best performance for some time when winning over C&D nine days ago and remains well-treated on his old form, so he is of definite interest, whilst Chookie Avon strikes as being a more solid option than some of his rivals and should go close to making the places if arriving in the same form as when third at Musselburgh just over a week ago.
14:30 - Sonko and Airborne Again are most likely to fight it out for the win and fill the two places on offer, so we will attempt to save a few lines and select only the former. The Tim Pitt-trained three-year-old has recorded three wins from four starts at five furlongs on polytrack and, although she appeared to be going off the boil when last seen, she has outstanding claims of hitting the mark in this easier grade.
15:00 - Several of these are open to improvement, making for an interesting event, but the two to side with are Meeting In Paris and Yahilwa. There was plenty of encouragement to take from the former's debut at Thirsk and, with the stable's runners usually improving for their initial experience, we can be confident that she will make a bold bid to see us safely through. Yahilwa may be ideally suited by further in time, having finished strongly over this distance on debut at Yarmouth, but she is likely to progress and could be staying on late to grab a place.
15:30 - Majestic Breeze put up an improved effort to get off the mark over C&D in July and, having improved further still, again over C&D on her latest outing when second to Invigilator, she appeals as a solid bet to be right in the firing line today. Not a great deal separates the field however so we will seek a bit of insurance with Monumental Man, who has been given a chance by the handicapper and took a step back in the right direction last time on return from a break, and should be involved if building on that.
16:00 - The fifth leg is pretty competitive and again not much separates quite a few, but the booking of Michael Murphy, who still claims 5 lb, for Robert Cowell's new recruit Arctic Lynx catches the eye and he goes in as our first selection. The five-year-old was not discredited on his most recent outing and goes in alongside Sutton Veny, who has shaped with some encouragement on occasion this year and is capable of making an impact now back on the all-weather.
16:30 - Partner is a confident selection to at least make the places here, and was going to go in as a banker but it would be folly to have made it this far and make a careless exit, so we will also take My Son Max. Partner finished an unlucky seventh in the Ayr Silver Cup on his latest start, not enjoying a clear run and finishing with a bit more to give, and he is capable of going very close if building on that, whilst My Son Max finished returned to his best when third to Idler at Newmarket last time and he has definite claims if repeating that.
