New Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe - the blonde wonder
Now that Eddie Howe is back at Bournemouth, our League One expert Alan Dudman is a happy man. Can the Cherries reward his faith on Tuesday night? Whilst the problem of the MK Dons scoring goals will hopefully be rectified for the midweek round of fixtures.
Notts County 2.407/5 v Bournemouth 3.259/4. the draw 3.4012/5
The Golden Boy has returned to Bournemouth, and Eddie Howe's impact was immediate on Saturday with a 3-1 home win over league leaders Tranmere. Although the blonde wonder stated afterwards "they are not a different team overnight", it's fair to say they were much better then anything former boss Paul Groves had previously offered.
Such is Howe's influence, the south coast club are available to back at 26.025/1 for the title - and they are just above the drop zone.
The weekend victory was the first time they had scored three goals in a game and won for 19 months, and the first recorded back-to-back win since the Howe regime last season. It cannot be stated enough the impact of the young boss, and he seems to have given his squad the belief and confidence they were so badly lacking under Groves.
Midfielder Harry 'Hollywood' Arter scored on Saturday, an excellent footballer signed by Howe previously. I also liked the way the front two of Josh McQuoid and Lee Barnard worked tirelessly, they also have goals in them.
Notts County have been very good this season, mainly due to their excellent away form (they are undefeated on their travels). At Meadow Lane however, they have lost three games, including defeats to Tranmere and Stevenage.
Magpies boss Keith Curle left out star man Alan Judge from Saturday's 2-1 win at Coventry. A huge surprise considering the talent of the midfielder, even more puzzling as according to reports he was fit. Curle got the tactics spot on against a resurgent Sky Blues, and hit them on the counter-attack with some dangerous play.
The hosts might need to weather a storm, as Bournemouth will have some momentum. County are a combative side with plenty of quality, which should make for a decent match.
Recommended bets:
Back Bournemouth to win @ 3.259/4
Back over 2.5 goals @ 2.01/1
Crawley Town 2.546/4 v MK Dons 3.052/1, the draw 3.45n/a
Last season's play-off finalists MK Dons just cannot score. The prized 4-2-3-1 formation is now beginning
to creak, with the Buckinghamshire side failing to find the net in their last two matches, and have mustered just six goals in six away matches.
Dons boss Karl Robinson is an excellent manager, and he will get them scoring. However, they are so frustrating to watch as they blitz teams with football, yet cannot kill them off. Saturday's 1-0 reverse to Stevenage was their first home defeat of the season and they are without a win in four.
Crawley boss Richie Barker has much the same football philosophy as Robinson, and have been involved in some very entertaining games at the Broadfield this season, including the crazy 2-5 defeat to Tranmere.
Town do like to play, and deserved more goals on Saturday with the 1-0 win at Hartlepool (who are terrible at the moment). Crawley played some excellent football at times and created a fair few chances in the final third. Four of their six games at home have been over 2.5 goals, whilst four of MK Dons last five away have been under 2.5.
The Dons played Preston off the park two weeks ago, yet drew 0-0. They need an early goal to open the
game up, and no side are as attractive to watch as the MK Dons. I hope the visitors switch to a 4-4-2, and might take a chance on them finding their scoring boots to go against the market and score some goals.
Recommended bets:
Back over 2.5 goals @ 2.1011/10 or bigger In-Play
Leyton Orient 2.526/4 v Colchester United 3.2011/5, the draw 3.3512/5
New Colchester manager Joe Dunne has made an excellent impact since taking over from the sacked John Ward. The likeable Irishman wants a passing game, and he has overseen some decent wins already - including Saturday's 2-0 win over Carlisle. At times, their play was dazzling, with the Cumbrians changing their formation on several occasions to deal with the pass-and-move style of the Us.
Dunne has reinvented the Essex outfit into a high-energy team that like to play out from the back, and former Orient striker Jabo Iberhe has hit four goals in five matches and is leading the line well.
The Londoners have a mixed home record - losing three but winning three. Manager Russell Slade was fuming
after Saturday's 2-0 loss at Oldham, a game they defended really well for most of the match. They use a 4-4-2 and usually have a fairly sound defensive shape.
An unders bet looks likely, considering five of Orient's six games at Brisbane Road have been under 2.5 goals, whilst Colchester have been involved in three 1-0 encounters either way on their travels.
Recommended bets:
Back under 2.5 goals @ 2.206/5
