Timeform UK SmartPlays: Thursday October 18

Wolverhampton is the venue for today's SmartPlays.

Timeform head to Wolverhampton for Thursday's three SmartPlays...

We get underway in the 15:30 where Tartan Gunna, who was useful on his day when trained by Mark Johnston, is on an appealing mark and is taken to gain his first win since the middle of 2010. The six-year-old left Johnston and had seven starts for James Given, not really firing on any occasion, but he shaped with more promise on debut for current trainer George Baker over C&D five days ago, finishing a staying on fourth and likely to have benefitted from a stronger gallop. With Koo And The Gang, Ela Gonda Mou and Sasheen all potential pace options the race could tee up nicely for Tartan Gunna, who can capitalise upon his relatively lowly mark.

The Anthony Carson-trained Geeaitch (16:00) didn't show a great deal in a trio of maidens or on handicap debut at Newcastle, but he ran a much better race when second to the progressive Dana's Present at Kempton last time and is taken to get off the mark here. With Dana's Present going on to win next time, and one from further back in the field, Bassett Road, also tasting success since, the aforementioned event is working out fairly well, and the unexposed Geeaitch looks more than capable of notching his first win.

The final event at Wolverhampton takes place at 17:35, in which Ryedale Dancer is fancied to take advantage of his reduced all-weather mark and round off what will hopefully have been a successful day at Dunstall Park. The four-year-old regained the winning thread for his current yard when winning at Newcastle in August, and he bounced back from a couple of poor efforts when fourth back at Newcastle earlier this month. His current mark of 52 is the lowest he has ever raced off on the all-weather, and it would be most dangerous to dismiss him.
