Timeform Radio Racing Tips: Sangar a sizzling Sunday bet

Willie Twiston-Davies takes the ride on Jeremy's second bet of the day, King's Troop

Jeremy Grayson makes the picks today and he likes the look of Ollie Pear's 4yo at Musselburgh...

It's a good bet that this afternoon's 1m1f handicap at Musselburgh (16:10) is going to be run at a solid gallop, not least because last-time 1m2f Newcastle winner Cadgers Brig won't get enough of a stamina test over today's shorter trip and sharper track unless being ridden to imbue proceedings with appreciable early pace himself.

That reads like just the ticket for Sangar, a filly whose preferred racing tactic would have her sitting off the worst excesses of any pace, but at the same time not so far back as to usually have to fight for space late in a race. "Usually" being the operative word, as the gaps unfortunately failed to materialise in time on the inner rail at Pontefract on her latest start, but the staying-on sixth there was demonstrably the performance of a horse still in form, and all the more merit-worthy for having been recorded over an inadequate 1m trip.

Back to the C&D over which her two best performances of the past four months have been recorded, including a nose defeat off 1lb higher than today's mark, Sangar makes a lot of appeal for a rider four times on the mark from just 12 rides in the past week.

Over at Epsom the apprentices get their big day out over the full Derby trip (16:30), and having run with credit in each of the equivalents for lady amateurs, gentlemen amateurs and jump jockeys in C&D recent outings Kings Troop is finally taken to get on the scoresheet for the season.

Key to his enhanced chance this time looks to be William Twiston-Davies's 5lb claim, an allowance which effectively permits Alan King's six-year-old to race off 61 - both a career-low and fully a stone lower than the mark from which his most recent win here two years ago was gained.

With last-time winner Rhythmic conspicuously kept away from sharp turf courses so far, and the drying forecast dead against top-rated Kathleen Frances, the ostensibly more exposed-looking Kings Troop looks well worth chancing instead.
