Ascot Racecourse.Timeform look ahead to the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge at Ascot on Saturday...
Allied Powers is smart at his best, and returned to winning ways in uncompetitive French Group 3 in May. Well held since, including in headgear last time, and likely to prove vulnerable under a penalty.
Arrigo was a smart German middle-distance colt last year, winning Group 2 at Cologne. Not much encouragement for new yard this term, though, and headgear now given a whirl.
Camborne won first 2 starts on polytrack, and proved effectiveness on turf when romping away with 1m handicaps at Doncaster and Royal Ascot. Not disgraced in Ebor last time and can make presence felt.
Songcraft won both outings for Andre Fabre and 2 handicaps at Meydan. Back to winning ways in 3-runner event at Salisbury before creditable third in listed race at Newmarket last week. Should go close.
Willing Foe missed most of 2011 but made up for lost time when winning Ebor from subsequent Irish St Leger winner Royal Diamond. Stamina possibly stretched in France last time and leading contender.
Hawaafez is a lightly-raced filly who improved again when easy winner of 13f Newbury listed event on return. Not disgraced in Group 3 at Goodwood next time and contender for yard with good record in this race.
Midnight Soprano NON-RUNNER.
Starboard is a progressive colt who was an impressive winner in Group 3 at Longchamp 2 weeks ago, making all. Dam stayed 2m so extra distance shouldn't be a problem. Big player.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Starboard
2. Willing Foe
3. Camborne
Timeform Verdict: John Gosden holds a strong hand with Starboard and Camborne. The former is the only 3-y-o in the field and can defy a penalty. Willing Foe is another strong contender.
